Birmingham City captain Christoph Klarer has thanked the fans for the support in the recent win over Cambridge, as he urged the club to \u2018build momentum\u2019 as they target the play-offs in the Championship. <\/strong><\/p>\n

It has been a mixed campaign so far for Blues<\/a> following their promotion back to the second tier, with Chris Davies\u2019 side currently 14th in the table and seven points away from the top six.<\/p>\n

However, an impressive victory over leaders Coventry ended a seven-game winless run in the league, and Birmingham<\/a> followed that up by progressing past the U\u2019s in the third round of the cup on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Whilst the 3-2 scoreline suggests a tight, entertaining game, the reality is that Birmingham<\/a> were dominant for large parts, and they had gone three up before the hosts pulled back two late goals.<\/p>\n

With Davies selecting a strong team, and Kyogo Furuhashi getting a goal after his struggles since joining from Rennes, it was a very good evening for Birmingham<\/a>, who will now be looking forward to the next round.<\/p>\n

And, taking to his Instagram story<\/a>, Klarer sent a passionate message to the fans who made the trip on Saturday, as he also hopes the past two games can be a turning point for their season.<\/p>\n

Birmingham City must use their recent turnaround to kick-on this season<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no denying that Birmingham<\/a> have been underwhelming in the Championship this season given the expectation that came with them after they broke EFL records when they won League One.<\/p>\n

They have a hugely talented squad, and more investment was put into the group in the summer, so nobody connected to the club would\u2019ve expected to be in the bottom half at this stage.<\/p>\n

But, the win over Coventry shows the squad can compete with anyone at this level, and beating Cambridge just helps build the momentum that Klarer was referencing.<\/p>\n

Davies deserves credit for going so strong in the cup, and winning games is only going to increase confidence and belief around the group.<\/p>\n

Clearly, they have a lot to do to reach the play-offs, but if Blues<\/a> can string a few wins together, the table will look very different.<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s down to the players to deliver on the pitch, with Birmingham<\/a> next in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Swansea City.<\/p>\n
