Queen Sofia has cancelled all of her upcoming engagements after
\nher sister\u2019s health deteriorated.<\/p>\n
Sofia, 88, has put all of her diary on hold after her younger
\nsibling, Princess Irene, underwent a decline. It\u2019s understood that
\nQueen Sofia doesn\u2019t want to leave her sister\u2019s side.<\/p>\n
Princess Irene has been ill for sometime and Sofia has been a
\nconstant support as her health declined.<\/p>\n
Just hours before Queen Sofia was due to undertake engagements
\nin Palma de Mallorca, Spain\u2019s royals announced she wouldn\u2019t be
\nattending and said that she needed to be with Irene.<\/p>\n
The princess, who is 83, had suffered cognitive decline in
\nrecent years and her health has got worse in the past months.<\/p>\n
The last time she was seen in public was in early 2025 when she
\nattended the wedding of her nephew, Prince Nikolas of Greece, in
\nAthens.<\/p>\n
Irene is the youngest of the three children of King Paul and
\nQueen Federica of the Hellenes. As well as Sofia, she was a sister
\nof King Constantine of the Hellenes who died in 2023.<\/p>\n
She never married and has always been close to Sofia who has
\nbeen one of her greatest friends as well as her sister.<\/p>\n
Sofia was seen at the weekend in Paris with her own three
\nchildren as they attended a memorial service. King Felipe VI
\naccompanied his mother out of the church in the French capital
\nwhile his older sisters, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina,
\nremained at a discreet distance.<\/p>\n
Queen Sofia was due to receive a prize for her sustainability
