Administrative services also happen slowly.

“There is also a low level of service, which is a common problem in Europe.”

Other problems he pointed out relate to housing, with the expat mentioning the layout of property, heating and squatting rules as drawbacks to Spain.

Alex continued: “Housing is often in poor condition, and the layouts are strange. For example, a window may face a wall, and there can be unpleasant odours on the streets.

“The problem of squatters [is also big]. The laws protect those who have nowhere to live, even if they’ve occupied someone else’s home.

“Because of this, there are many checks when renting housing. In my opinion, this is very stupid, and homeowners should be allowed to evict them.

“In the south, summer temperatures can reach 40 degrees, so you can’t really sit outside. But there may be no heating in the house, and it will be cold in winter, which is very unpleasant.”

The expat suggested service tends to be slow

GETTY

The final thing he alerted potential expats to is the tax system, suggesting they are high.

He said: “Taxes are also high here.
