A new fly-through video has been released to showcase how the London terminus for Bishop\u2019s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth and Stansted\u2019s train passengers will look after its multi-million pound makeover.<\/p>\n
Network Rail\u2019s footage takes viewers on a virtual tour, bringing to life the vision for a more accessible, well-designed and welcoming Liverpool Street Station.<\/p>\n
The station, built in 1875, was last upgraded in 1991, but since then passenger numbers have tripled.<\/p>\n

Last month, Liverpool Street was crowned Britain\u2019s busiest railway station for the third year in a row, recording almost 100 million rail entries and exits in addition to underground customers.<\/p>\n
With passenger numbers forecast to rise to 158 million by 2041, the proposed redevelopment is designed to ensure the station is future-proofed and ready to accommodate more than 200 million people in the decades ahead.<\/p>\n
It serves Greater Anglia\u2019s West Anglia line and the Stansted Express to the airport.<\/p>\n
Following public consultation on the plans, which are focused on improving the everyday experience of passengers, nearly 2,000 individual comments were received.<\/p>\n
Network Rail said the scheme had already attracted significant public support with more than 1,000 people registering their backing on the City of London\u2019s planning portal. This made it one of the most supported planning applications ever submitted to the City of London, it added.<\/p>\n
Feedback from station customers during the design stage was clear, it said, with the top two priorities being step-free access and new lifts and escalators to increase accessibility to both the mainline station and London Underground.<\/p>\n
Plans submitted include a significantly enlarged concourse to ease congestion, step-free access across all rail and underground platforms, eight new lifts and an increase in escalators from four to 10.<\/p>\n
Additional ticket barriers are proposed to reduce queuing, while new toilets and family facilities on all levels, alongside clearer signage, would improve passenger comfort and navigation throughout the station.<\/p>\n
A new office building above the station concourse has been designed to better reveal the Grade II* listed Andaz Hotel and positively respond to the conservation area and protected views. It will also help fund the station redevelopment.<\/p>\n
Ellie Burrows, Network Rail Managing Director for Eastern, said: \u201cThis really shows how the transformed Liverpool Street could better serve our customers, offering more space, improved accessibility and a station designed for future demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s time London Liverpool Street, the capital\u2019s gateway to the city, became a destination in its own right, delivering for passengers both today and for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
The complete renovation is expected to take six years, with the main station improvements occurring over the first four years.
