A massive internet outage<\/a> struck the city of Houston Friday afternoon, and one of the area’s biggest providers said they believe it was an intentional act of vandalism.<\/p>\n

Comcast, which provides internet services under their Xfinity brand, said they determined that there had been ‘several back-to-back acts’ of vandalism which had disrupted their telecommunication lines.<\/p>\n

Comcast officials also confirmed they’re working with law enforcement to find out who was responsible.<\/p>\n

‘Telecommunication line vandalism has been a crime<\/a> that we’ve worked with law enforcement agencies and the media to bring about public awareness,’ Comcast officials in Texas<\/a> said in a statement<\/a>\u00a0Friday.<\/p>\n

The telecom giant was able to restore internet services to ‘almost all’ of their residential and business customers hours after the outage.<\/p>\n

They added that the repairs included work to fix damaged fiber lines in the Houston area.<\/p>\n

Xfinity internet covers over 97 percent of Houston, a city with 2.3 million residents.<\/p>\n
