Photographer: Mark Kauzlarich\/Bloomberg via Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-3000609\"  \/><strong>Image Credits:<\/strong>Bloomberg \/ Contributor \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From frivolous to more serious, there was no shortage of legal startup developments this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Clued up<\/strong>: Startups launched products such as \u201cTruely\u201d to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/29\/startups-launch-products-to-catch-people-using-ai-cheating-app-cluely\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">catch people using viral AI cheating app Cluely<\/a>, but the startup says it is ready to stay one step ahead with hardware products that will make it even harder to detect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Besieged<\/strong>: Troubled fashion startup CaaStle is facing <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/29\/troubled-startup-caastle-is-now-facing-two-new-lawsuits-and-more-allegations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new lawsuits and allegations<\/a> after its founder was accused of financial misconduct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Figure it out<\/strong>: Hot robotics startup Figure AI <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/29\/figure-ai-sent-cease-and-desist-letters-to-secondary-markets-brokers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent cease-and-desist letters<\/a> to at least two brokers who run secondary marketplaces, demanding that they stop marketing the company\u2019s stock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Still fighting<\/strong>: Imaguru was Belarus\u2019 first startup hub. Now its founders <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/01\/branded-extremists-for-building-startups-belarusian-tech-pioneers-face-a-stateless-life-in-exile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are in exile but continue their mission<\/a>, with hubs in Warsaw and Madrid supported by European institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Techcrunch event<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBerkeley, CA<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t|<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tJune 5\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/events\/tc-sessions-ai\/exhibit\/?promo=tc_inline_exhibit&amp;utm_campaign=tcsessionsai2025&amp;utm_content=exhibit&amp;utm_medium=ad&amp;utm_source=tc\" class=\"inline-cta__register-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\tBOOK NOW<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Serial drama<\/strong>: Deel officially <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/deel-officially-agrees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed to be served legal papers<\/a> in the lawsuit initiated by its rival Rippling over alleged spying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Flawed<\/strong>: A mysterious London-based investor asked a U.S. bankruptcy judge <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/mysterious-financier-asks-judge-to-stop-canoo-asset-sale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to stop the sale of EV startup Canoo\u2019s assets<\/a> to its CEO, calling it a \u201cflawed\u201d process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most interesting VC and funding news this week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3006\" height=\"2004\" data-destinationlink=\"https:\/\/ixieyewear.com\/\" data-event=\"clickable_image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IXI_14_low-res.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3000447\"  \/><strong>Image Credits:<\/strong>under a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ixieyewear.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">IXI (opens in a new window)<\/a> license.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If all the startups that announced funding rounds this week reach their goals, the world might be a better place. Plus, some funds are ready to back even more entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Casting a net<\/strong>: Cast AI, a startup building tools to optimize workloads for AI and automated tasks, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/30\/cast-ai-raises-108m-to-get-the-max-out-of-ai-kubernetes-and-other-workloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised a $108 million Series C<\/a> to fuel its R&amp;D and geographic expansion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Strong run<\/strong>: Lightrun, an Israeli startup whose AI-enabled observability platform helps debug code, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/lightrun-grabs-70m-using-ai-to-debug-code-in-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">locked in a $70 million Series B<\/a> co-led by new backer Accel alongside previous investor Insight Partners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Legal tech<\/strong>: Supio, a startup that uses AI to automate data collection and analysis for legal teams, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/30\/supio-an-ai-powered-legal-platform-lands-60m-in-fresh-capital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised a $60 million funding round<\/a> led by Sapphire Ventures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bold vision<\/strong>: IXI, a Finnish startup hoping to bring autofocus to prescription glasses, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/ixi-raises-36-5m-from-amazon-and-more-to-bring-the-concept-of-autofocus-to-prescription-glasses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised $36.5 million<\/a> from Amazon Alexa Fund and others to work on its first commercial product.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>B2B trade<\/strong>: Nuvo, a San Francisco-based startup whose platform facilitates purchasing of physical goods between businesses, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/30\/nuvo-a-network-for-b2b-trade-has-nabbed-34m-from-a-whos-who-list-of-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised a $34 million Series A<\/a> from Sequoia Capital and Spark Capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And OmniRetail, which aims to facilitate B2B e-commerce across Nigeria and West Africa, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/omniretail-shakes-up-africas-b2b-e-commerce-market-with-20m-series-a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised a $20 million Series A<\/a> co-led by Norwegian development finance institution Norfund and Nigerian VC firm Timon Capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Early detection<\/strong>: Japanese startup Craif, a Nagoya University spinout that uses microRNA to develop AI-powered early cancer detection software, raised <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/27\/craif-a-non-invasive-early-cancer-detection-platform-grabs-22m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a $22 million Series C<\/a> to fuel its expansion and R&amp;D.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ballooning<\/strong>: Near Space Labs, a startup whose balloon-based aerial imaging platform can have dual-use applications, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/29\/near-space-labs-nabs-20m-to-take-its-high-res-imaging-swift-robots-into-the-stratosphere\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">secured a $20 million Series B<\/a> led by Bold Capital Partners, a VC firm founded by Peter Diamandis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hot<\/strong>: Glacier, a startup behind a robot-enabled recycling fleet already deployed in several U.S. cities, secured <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/amazon-backed-glacier-gets-16m-to-expand-its-robot-recycling-fleet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a $16 million Series A<\/a> led by Ecosystem Integrity Fund, with participation from Amazon\u2019s Climate Pledge Fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Not broken<\/strong>: Kintsugi, an AI sales tax startup named after the Japanese art of fixing broken pottery, raised $15 million from tax technology solution provider Vertex and $3 million from existing investors <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/30\/ai-sales-tax-startup-kintsugi-has-doubled-its-valuation-in-6-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at a $150 million post-money valuation<\/a>, up from $80 million in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>No more burping<\/strong>: Hoofprint Biome, a startup slashing methane emissions by modifying cattle\u2019s microbiome, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/29\/hoofprint-biome-boosts-cow-nutrition-while-slashing-methane-burps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised a $15 million Series A<\/a> led by SOSV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>U.K. upside<\/strong>: Volution, a U.K.-based VC investing in fintech, AI, and SaaS startups, launched <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/volution-doubles-down-on-booming-uk-fintech-with-new-100m-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a new $100 million fund<\/a> to double down on its thesis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>One-up<\/strong>: European entrepreneur-focused platform EWOR <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/are-ewor-fellowships-the-real-project-europe-is-looking-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched its own \u201cfounder fellowship,\u201d<\/a> committing approximately $68 million to the initiative, which will compete with <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/03\/12\/project-europe-a-new-early-stage-fund-will-back-under-25s-with-200k-to-build-the-next-tech-titan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harry Stebbings\u2019 fellowship Project Europe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last but not least<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3950\" height=\"2150\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may not have heard of Ali Partovi, but those in the know have. The Iranian-born Harvard graduate has an impressive multi-decade-long track record that spans founding and exiting several startups and early investing in tech giants.
