{"id":695499,"date":"2026-01-14T13:55:22","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T13:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/695499\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T13:55:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T13:55:22","slug":"lidl-to-open-3-new-london-stores-as-part-of-40m-expansion-full-list-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/695499\/","title":{"rendered":"Lidl to open 3 new London stores as part of \u00a340m expansion &#8211; full list revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/newsletter_city_edition_embed_desktop.png\" alt=\"City Edition\" width=\"158px\" height=\"158px\" class=\"sc-gytJtb kpUGLA\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/lidl-uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Discount supermarket Lidl <\/a>has confirmed they will be opening 19 stores across England over the next eight weeks, creating up to 640 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The German owned company, who launched their 1,000th store last year, is now the sixth biggest grocery chain in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UK<\/a>,  with a market share of 8.1% according to Worldpanel data.<\/p>\n<p>They have also announced plans to invest approximately \u00a340m into refurbishing over 70 existing branches across the UK, installing new tills and larger freezers, and aim to add 40 further sites by the end of February.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/lidl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lidl<\/a> have said that shoppers can get complimentary food and special prizes on the opening day at each store.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes after Lidl announced a record Christmas, with sales up 10% from last year and a turnover of more than \u00a31.1billion in the four weeks up to Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n<p>They also reported that shopper numbers rose 8% year-on-year in 2025, with nearly 51 million customers entering their stores, almost four million more than in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Lidl\u2019s market share increase has the store closing in on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/morrisons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morrisons<\/a>, whose position has fallen to 8.3% &#8211; however they remain below fellow discounter Aldi, who have a market share of 10.5%. <\/p>\n<p>Richard Taylor, chief real estate officer at Lidl GB, said: \u201cWe\u2019re starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a major investment that reinforces our commitment to delivering the best experience for customers and creating a positive impact for the communities we serve.
