{"id":695525,"date":"2026-01-14T14:14:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T14:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/695525\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T14:14:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T14:14:13","slug":"psni-seeks-new-recruits-from-all-backgrounds-and-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/695525\/","title":{"rendered":"PSNI seeks new recruits \u2018from all backgrounds and communities\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The PSNI has launched a recruitment drive calling for student officers and new police staff, urging applicants \u201cfrom all backgrounds and communities to step forward\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As of 2026, 67% of PSNI officers are \u201cperceived Protestant\u201d and 31.5% are \u201cperceived Catholic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The gender make-up of the force constitutes a similar split, with just over two-thirds (67%) of officers being men and one third women (32%).<\/p>\n<p>Less than 1% of the 6,334 officers are from an ethnic minority background.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Constable Jon Boutcher described the PSNI as \u201cthe best police service in the world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cPolicing is more than a job, it is a chance to work with and for communities across Northern Ireland and make a meaningful difference every single day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking for individuals who care about their communities, who want to work with them to help others, and who are ready to step into roles that truly matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew recruits will receive comprehensive training, and ongoing professional development, with a starting salary of \u00a335,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no other job like it and we want people from all walks of life, from all communities, to join us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768397708233_1.jpg--.jpg\" width=\"640\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The application process for student officer recruitment will close on Wednesday February 4, and potential custody detention officers must apply by Monday February 9.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Boutcher said the force is particularly appealing to \u201cthose currently under-represented within the service, to apply for a career in policing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIf you have integrity, compassion and a willingness to learn, and if you want to make positive change for your community and across Northern Ireland, apply to join the Police Service, which is, having been a police officer for over 40 years, the best police service in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur officers listen, support, protect, and they build relationships with communities that can change lives.
