{"id":695634,"date":"2026-01-14T15:22:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T15:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/695634\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T15:22:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T15:22:10","slug":"petition-started-over-plans-to-change-freedom-pass-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/695634\/","title":{"rendered":"Petition started over plans to change Freedom Pass in London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Older Person&#8217;s Freedom Pass is paid for by London&#8217;s 32 boroughs and the City of London Corporation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The cost of the scheme is expected to rise by almost 12% in the next financial year, from almost \u00a3333m in 2025-26 to around \u00a3372m in 2026-27.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Documents from London Councils&#8217; Transport and Environment Committee meeting from December showed that if the Freedom Pass were to only cover bus journeys in London it would lower the cost to London&#8217;s councils of providing the scheme by more than \u00a3100m a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Concessionary travel schemes in most other areas of England only cover buses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Separate to the Freedom Pass, Transport for London pays for another scheme called the 60+ London Oyster card that provides the same benefits for people over the age of 60, until they become eligible for the Freedom Pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">London Councils said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cy098dwz28vo\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a range of options would be considered later this year<\/a>, but any changes to the Older Person&#8217;s Freedom Pass scheme would require full public consultation and may require changes in legislation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Older Person&#8217;s Freedom Pass is paid for by London&#8217;s 32 boroughs and the City of London Corporation.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":695635,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7757],"tags":[748,393,4884,257,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-695634","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-london","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-england","10":"tag-great-britain","11":"tag-london","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115894140607266186","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/695634","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=695634"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/695634\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/695635"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=695634"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=695634"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=695634"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
