Birmingham City have confirmed the signing of defender Michaela Kovacs on a season-long loan until the end of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kovacs will be able to play for the Blues once her international clearance has been approved by WSL2.<\/p>\n

Michaela Kovacs joins <\/strong>Birmingham City<\/p>\n

Birmingham City have announced the signing of American defender Michaela Kovacs.<\/p>\n

The accomplished defender has played all across Europe in her career so far, but her move to the Championship brings her to England for the first time.<\/p>\n

Kovacs kicked off her professional career in Portugal, before moving to Sweden and Norway in the past two years.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old brings valuable experience to Birmingham City. Kovacs featured for Valerenga in the Champions League and could prove very useful for Birmingham in their title race.<\/p>\n

At the midway point in the season Birmingham currently sit second in WSL2. There is a five point gap between the Midlands side and Charlton in first, but with three teams given the chance of going up<\/a> this season they are in a prime spot to challenge for promotion.<\/p>\n

Birmingham continue their promotion charge in just over a week\u2019s time and Kovacs could make her Championship debut against relegation candidates Portsmouth.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the club\u2019s official website after her arrival in Birmingham, Kovacs said: \u201cI\u2019m very excited to get started. It\u2019s been a really warm welcome from the minute I got off the plane to meeting everyone here. It\u2019s been fantastic so far.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ambition here is clear, and I want to be part of pushing Birmingham City back to where it belongs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The arrival of Kovacs came just hours after it was announced that Manchester United would recall Lucy Newell<\/a> from her loan with Birmingham City.<\/p>\n
