{"id":69728,"date":"2025-05-03T00:07:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-03T00:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/69728\/"},"modified":"2025-05-03T00:07:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T00:07:09","slug":"tiktok-fined-452million-for-breaching-eu-privacy-rules-by-sending-data-to-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/69728\/","title":{"rendered":"TikTok fined \u00a3452million for breaching EU privacy rules by sending data to China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TIKTOK has been fined \u00a3452million for breaching EU privacy rules by sending data to China.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/tiktok\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The video-sharing app<\/a> was also rapped for not being clear with its users on where their information was transferred.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish Data Protection Commission ordered the platform \u2014 owned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/where\/china\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China<\/a>-based ByteDance \u2014 to comply with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/european-union\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">EU<\/a> rules within six months.<\/p>\n<p>DPC deputy commissioner Graham Doyle said TikTok failed to verify that data held was adequately protected.<\/p>\n<p>He said TikTok had not addressed possible access under Chinese \u201canti- terrorism, counter-espionage and other laws\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok denied it stored European users\u2019 data in China during the DPC investigation.<\/p>\n<p>But then it admitting in February a limited amount had been.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Doyle said: \u201cThe DPC is taking these recent developments regarding the storage of EEA User Data on servers in China very seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhilst TikTok has informed the DPC that the data has now been deleted, we are considering what further regulatory action may be warranted, in consultation with our peer EU Data Protection Authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DPC will publish the full decision and further related information in due course.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.ie\/tech\/15145630\/tiktok-irish-data-protection-authorities-china\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>TikTok ban deadline extended by Trump as Walmart \u2018considers buying app\u2019 after bids by Oracle and Amazon<a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Woman using TikTok app on her phone.\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Alamy\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2cbhk32-women-holding-phone-tiktok-817961272.jpg\" data-caption=\"TikTok has been fined \u00a3452million for breaching EU privacy rules by sending data to China\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2cbhk32-women-holding-phone-tiktok-817961272.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1<\/p>\n<p>TikTok has been fined \u00a3452million for breaching EU privacy rules by sending data to ChinaCredit: Alamy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TIKTOK has been fined \u00a3452million for breaching EU privacy rules by sending data to China.
