{"id":697497,"date":"2026-01-15T11:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T11:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/697497\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T11:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T11:08:11","slug":"spain-doesnt-rule-out-sending-troops-to-greenland-after-denmark-admits-trump-wants-to-conquer-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/697497\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain &#8216;doesn&#8217;t rule out&#8217; sending troops to Greenland after Denmark admits &#8216;Trump wants to conquer it&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SPAIN\u2019S Defence Minister has not ruled out sending troops to Greenland to study ways to help security in the wake of threats by US President Donald Trump to annex the territory.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Thursday, Margarita Robles said that \u2018strengthening surveillance in Greenland would be an option\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>She also appealed for prudence and \u2018not to precipitate events\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img data-perfmatters-preload=\"\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"490\" height=\"327\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/trump-oval-office-490x327.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-435782\" style=\"width:636px;height:auto\"   fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><strong>TRUMP THREATS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Her comments came after France, Sweden, Germany and Norway announced the sending of troops to the Danish territory.<\/p>\n<p>The four countries confirmed the move to look at boosting security after the failure of Wednesday\u2019s talks between Trump and the Danish and Greenlandic authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Trump reiterated his intention to annex the island to boost \u2018security\u2019 against China and Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Margarita Robles stated that any Spanish role would be to \u2018reinforce surveillance\u2019 in Greenland and that a decision would be taken very soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to see throughout today and tomorrow morning at meetings where we will see how everything progresses,\u201d she told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on that, we will make a decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if a possible US invasion would mean the end of NATO, Robles commented: \u201cI don\u2019t think so. I sincerely believe that it is unacceptable and very serious but I don\u2019t think we are in that position\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Robles has been critical about the tardiness of the European Union\u2019s approach to the American threats.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Wednesday, Robles commented: \u201cThe European Union has to react.
