{"id":69758,"date":"2025-05-03T00:22:58","date_gmt":"2025-05-03T00:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/69758\/"},"modified":"2025-05-03T00:22:58","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T00:22:58","slug":"metallica-frontman-visits-sandman-at-kentucky-derby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/69758\/","title":{"rendered":"Metallica frontman visits Sandman at Kentucky Derby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fresh off a couple of shows at Rogers Centre last week, Metallica frontman James Hetfield took some time Friday to visit another sporting venue.<\/p>\n<p>Hetfield made his way to Churchill Downs to offer his best wishes to Sandman, who was third in the morning-line odds for Saturday&#8217;s Kentucky Derby.<\/p>\n<p>The Arkansas Derby winner, of course, has a deep connection to the American rockers and their classic song &#8220;Enter Sandman.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Metallica donated shirts for the colt&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlky.com\/article\/kentucky-derby-horse-sandman-metallica\/64550783\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">barn crew.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sandman also has a Canadian connection \u2014 the horse is trained by Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Famer Mark Casse, who has dominated at Woodbine Racetrack for years.<\/p>\n<p>The Indiana native has won the King&#8217;s Plate, Canada&#8217;s top horse race, three times.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Florida Panthers owner Vincent Viola is one of Sandman&#8217;s four owners. He won the 2017 Kentucky Derby as a co-owner of Always Dreaming.<\/p>\n<p>Sandman will break from post No. 17 in the Run for the Roses.
