{"id":698514,"date":"2026-01-15T21:47:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T21:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/698514\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T21:47:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T21:47:10","slug":"liverpool-to-host-tour-de-france-race-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/698514\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool to host Tour de France race stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Merseyside has been included in the Tour de France\u2019s route for 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The iconic cycling event is set to return to the UK next summer with racers travelling across the country over six days in the ceremonial Grand Departs.<\/p>\n<p>Competitors in the men\u2019s event will pass through Knowsley and St Helens before finishing stage two at Liverpool\u2019s iconic waterfront on Saturday, July 3.<\/p>\n<p>All start and finish venues across the country were lit up simultaneously on Thursday (January 15) to mark the announcement including on The Strand.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Rotheram, Mayor for the Liverpool City Region, said: \u201cThe Tour de France is one of the world\u2019s most iconic sporting spectacles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it\u2019s only right that it comes to the UK\u2019s most decorated sporting region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWelcoming the finish of stage two with the backdrop of our iconic waterfront will be an unforgettable occasion \u2013 not just for cycling fans, but for everyone who lives here or comes to visit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a huge opportunity to support our thriving \u00a36.25 billion visitor economy, showcase our region to a global audience, and play a part in sporting history.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Merseyside has been included in the Tour de France\u2019s route for 2027.
