{"id":698781,"date":"2026-01-16T00:43:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T00:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/698781\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T00:43:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T00:43:12","slug":"uk-and-ukraine-strengthen-ties-under-landmark-partnership-as-20m-accelerated-to-support-energy-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/698781\/","title":{"rendered":"UK and Ukraine\u202fstrengthen ties under\u202flandmark\u202fpartnership\u202fas \u00a320m accelerated to support energy infrastructure"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>\n<p>UK and Ukraine mark first anniversary of\u202fthe historic 100 Year Partnership with new initiatives\u202fdriving security and prosperity\u202fin both countries.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u00a320 million of new support announced for vital energy infrastructure repairs in Ukraine as Russia\u2019s barbaric attacks on innocent civilians intensify.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Boost for UK and Ukraine\u2019s next generations\u202fas successful school\u202ftwinning programme further expanded, strengthening\u202fpartnerships on education, research\u202fand\u202finnovation.\u202f \u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0UK\u00a0has today\u00a0(Friday 16\u00a0January)\u00a0announced\u00a0a further \u00a320\u00a0million\u00a0of\u00a0energy infrastructure support to\u00a0bolster Ukrainian energy security following callous\u00a0and\u00a0intensifying\u00a0Russian attacks on Ukraine\u2019s energy\u00a0sector.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It comes as the UK and Ukraine mark the first year of the landmark\u00a0100 year\u00a0partnership between the two countries in Kyiv today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of thousands\u00a0of Ukrainians,\u00a0including\u00a0children and schools\u00a0have been left\u00a0without heat and power as temperatures across Ukraine\u00a0plummet\u00a0to -20c.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0new support\u00a0announced today will help\u00a0respond to urgent needs to keep heat and power available\u00a0for\u00a0millions of families,\u00a0children\u00a0and the elderly\u00a0after\u00a0President Zelenskyy\u00a0announced a\u00a0state of emergency in Ukraine\u00a0following prolonged attacks on Ukraine\u2019s energy sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This funding will provide vital emergency support to repair, restore, protect and generate energy supply nationwide, keeping electricity and heating on in homes, hospitals and schools during harsh winter conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating\u00a0the first anniversary of the UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership,\u00a0the UK is also expanding the successful school twinning programme, with\u00a054,000 British and Ukrainian\u202fpupils set to\u00a0benefit, fostering long term security and growth\u202facross both nations.\u202f\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a boost to\u202fthe next generation, an\u00a0additional\u00a0300 schools across both countries are set to\u00a0participate\u00a0in the landmark 100 Year Partnership\u202fschools twinning programme over the next 3 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Keir Starmer said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Our 100 Year Partnership with Ukraine stands for everything Putin is trying to destroy, bringing hope, opportunity and greater security to both our countries.<\/p>\n<p>As we mark a year of our unique partnership, we do so in awe of the courage and resilience demonstrated by Ukrainians every day as they repel Russia\u2019s barbaric invasion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The people of Ukraine should be in no doubt &#8211; we will stand with you today, tomorrow and for the next 100 years, both at home and on the international stage, because what happens in Ukraine matters to us all.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Today we are cementing our future-facing partnership with the expansion of our successful school twinning scheme to over\u202f300\u202fnew schools &#8211; fostering\u202fnew\u202fconnections between our\u202fyoung\u00a0people and\u00a0helping build their confidence and skill\u202fsets for future success.<\/p>\n<p>Our support for Ukraine as\u202fit continues to\u202fresist Putin\u2019s barbaric war is steadfast,\u00a0and\u00a0our ongoing support for energy security and resilience will help to keep the lights on and Ukrainian homes warm when\u00a0vulnerable civilians need it most.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Our bilateral ties extend far beyond the conflict,\u202ffrom opening new doors to trade and growth for British businesses,\u00a0deepening defence cooperation,\u00a0partnering to drive innovations in science and technology, and deepening our educational and cultural ties,\u202fwe are building lasting security and shared prosperity for Ukraine, for the UK and for future generations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The UK\u202fwill continue\u202fto give Ukraine our ironclad support,\u202fdriving\u202fforward momentum for peace\u202falongside our international allies\u00a0to\u202fensure Russia is never able to invade again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As part of the UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership, we are working together to ensure\u00a0long-term\u00a0energy security and sustainability through projects such as\u00a0InnovateUkraine\u00a0which\u00a0aims to\u00a0bolster\u00a0Ukraine\u2019s energy security and offer\u00a0solutions to global clean energy challenges.\u00a0The\u00a0additional\u00a0energy support announced today will help build resilience for the Ukrainian energy system,\u00a0bringing total UK support\u00a0for Ukraine\u2019s energy sector to\u00a0over \u00a3470\u00a0million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s\u202fannouncements\u00a0follow\u202fa landmark year for the\u202fUK-Ukraine relationship,\u202fwith deepened defence cooperation\u202fsecuring a \u00a31.6 billion\u202fdeal to supply advanced air defence missiles to Ukraine\u202fcreating 200 jobs in Northern Ireland,\u202fa 20% increase in UK exports with further efforts to remove barriers stopping British businesses in sectors such as pharmaceutical and construction\u202fand\u202fstrengthened cultural and educational ties through our pioneering school twinning programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last\u00a0January,\u00a0the\u00a0Prime Minister visited Kyiv School Number 219 to launch the partnership, joining a class dialling into All Saints Catholic Primary School in Anfield.
