{"id":699105,"date":"2026-01-16T04:14:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T04:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/699105\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T04:14:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T04:14:12","slug":"specialized-issue-stop-ride-notice-on-commuter-e-bikes-over-potential-cracks-in-steerer-tube","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/699105\/","title":{"rendered":"Specialized issue &#8216;stop-ride&#8217; notice on commuter e-bikes over potential cracks in steerer tube"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"5fc8ccb0-d43c-44cf-b745-f9a3aa5bf681\">Specialized have issued a &#8216;stop-ride&#8217; notice on all <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/news\/product-news\/specialized-gives-como-commuter-e-bike-the-lightweight-touch-494928\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/news\/product-news\/specialized-gives-como-commuter-e-bike-the-lightweight-touch-494928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turbo Como SL<\/a> e-bikes, due to the potential for cracks in the steerer tube.<\/p>\n<p>In an email sent out to retailers and customers on Thursday afternoon, Mark Schroeder, the senior director of quality and test engineering at Specialized, asked people to &#8220;stop riding immediately&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"5fc8ccb0-d43c-44cf-b745-f9a3aa5bf681-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">He wrote: &#8220;At Specialized, our riders always come first. We have identified a potential issue with forks fitted to all models of Turbo Como SL bicycles.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;The fork steerer tube on affected bikes may develop a small fatigue crack which depending on use could lead to a progressive failure of the fork, posing a fall hazard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;We ask that you stop riding your Como SL bicycle immediately. If you are no longer the owner, please inform the new owner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The bikes are described on the American company&#8217;s website as &#8220;the ultimate combination of power, range, and comfort for city and beyond&#8221;. They retail from \u00a31,999.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;Specialized are working with the U.S. CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) to obtain the required approvals to provide you with a solution,&#8221; Schroeder continued. &#8220;At this time, we believe it will be several weeks before we can provide details of an approved rework plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;Riders should therefore check www.specialized.com\/safety-notices for periodic updates.
