{"id":699178,"date":"2026-01-16T05:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T05:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/699178\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T05:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T05:08:11","slug":"australian-dad-killed-by-police-car-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/699178\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian dad killed by police car in UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\ufeff man fatally struck by a police car in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9news.com.au\/uk\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"London\">London<\/a> has been identified as an Australian national.<\/p>\n<p>The UK Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said at about 12.30am on January 7, two Metropolitan Police cars were travelling south on Borough High Street in Southwark.<\/p>\n<p>The cars were responding to an emergency call and had sirens and lights on.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/75ed1acf-1f07-4011-a2a5-101f172945db.jpeg\"   alt=\"\"\/>Australian national David Clark, 35, has died in Southwark, London. (GoFundMe)<\/p>\n<p>The first police car struck a man since identified as David Clark, 35, as it passed through a junction. <\/p>\n<p>The IOPC said it appeared Clark was crossing the road.<\/p>\n<p>Both police drivers stopped\ufeff and provided first aid, but Clark was declared dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>He was survived by his wife and infant child, with whom he lived in Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our deepest sympathies are with Mr Clark&#8217;s family and friends both in the UK and in Australia, and everyone affected by his death,&#8221; IOPC director Amanda Rowe said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have met with his family to advise them of our investigation and they will be provided with regular updates. They have requested privacy at this difficult time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She said the IOPC would carrry out an &#8220;independent investigation&#8221; into the crash, with the officers involved currently being treated as witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>An online fundraiser for Clark&#8217;s family, set up by family friend Teresa Samuels, has raised over \u00a314,700\ufeff (over $29,000).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was supporting his family alone while his wife was taking care of their baby,&#8221; the organiser wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This fund is to help her look after his little girl as well.\ufeff&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A later post on the page appears to be from Clark&#8217;s wife, expressing both her sorrow and her thankfulness to all who donated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Losing David has shattered my world in ways I am still trying to understand,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And yet, in the middle of this unbearable pain, I have felt an outpouring of kindness that has carried us through moments when I didn&#8217;t think I could keep going.\ufeff&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A\ufeff man fatally struck by a police car in London has been identified as an Australian national.
