{"id":699586,"date":"2026-01-16T09:33:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T09:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/699586\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T09:33:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T09:33:12","slug":"peter-mullan-headbutted-after-stopping-domestic-abuser-in-glasgow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/699586\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Mullan &#8216;headbutted&#8217; after stopping domestic abuser in Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The award-winning actor, who is best known for his roles in Trainspotting, Braveheart, and the recent BAFTA-nominated I Swear, said he couldn\u2019t in \u201cgood conscience\u201d walk away after he spotted a man \u201cpulling his girlfriend all over the shop,\u201d according to the Scottish Sun.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 66-year-old said he \u201csensed something wasn\u2019t right\u201d while walking past the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/o2-academy\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">O2 Academy<\/a> last September when he noticed the woman was upset and crying.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Details of Mullan\u2019s bravery can be revealed since Dylan, 29-year-old Bennett, was jailed for 18 months after admitting two counts of assault at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/glasgow-sheriff-court\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow Sheriff Court<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25770312.cosmetics-factory-england-close-150-years-move-scotland\/?ref=ed_latest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cosmetics factory in England to close after 150 years and move to Scotland<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Peterhead-born actor said that when he went over to confront Bennett over his concern for the female\u2019s safety, the 29-year-old \u201cknocked\u201d his cap off before headbutting him.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  However, Mullan told the court that he stood his ground following the attack, which \u201cscared the life out\u201d of Bennett, who then began \u201cwhimpering\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The police arrived shortly after the incident and arrested Bennett.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI was walking past and saw what was going on,\u201d Mullan said, according to the Scottish Sun.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHe was pulling his girlfriend all over the shop.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI couldn\u2019t, in all good conscience, walk away from what I was seeing.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cSo, I went over to him and said, \u2018look, the cops have been called. Why don\u2019t you just walk away?\u2019\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHe then knocked the cap off my head.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mullan explained he then challenged Bennett to pick his hat back up and hand it back to him.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThat\u2019s when he nutted me,\u201d Mullan continued.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHe got me a cracker but I didn\u2019t go down. That scared the life out of him.
