A bumper 12-hour movie marathon is coming to a Kent cinema for one day only.<\/p>\n

Fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy can watch the extended edition of all three films as part of a blockbuster event at Showcase Cinema de Lux Bluewater in Greenhithe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One ticket will grant fantasy fanatics access to 12 hours\u2019 worth of back-to-back action, with the extended editions of each film exceeding three hours.<\/p>\n

The longest film of the franchise clocks up almost 270 minutes, and cinema-goers can expect to be in their seats until around midnight.<\/p>\n

The marathon starts with the first of Peter Jackson\u2019s adventures to Middle-earth, The Fellowship of the Ring, which came to the big screen in 2001.<\/p>\n

The sequel, The Two Towers, was released the following year, and the final instalment, The Return of the King, completed the set in 2003.<\/p>\n

Based on the novels by J R R Tolkien and featuring an ensemble cast including Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis and Liv Tyler, the trilogy is one of the most acclaimed cinematic achievements of all time, racking up a total of 17 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.<\/p>\n

The special editions include extended scenes, visual effects and character dialogue cut from the original theatrical releases.<\/p>\n

Jon Dixon, UK marketing director at Showcase Cinemas, said: \u201cThere\u2019s nothing quite like experiencing The Lord of the Rings on the biggest screen possible, and to see the full trilogy, extended and uninterrupted, in one epic sitting makes it even more special.<\/p>\n

There are two screenings at the Bluewater cinema on Saturday, July 17. The first screening starts at 12 noon, while the second screening starts at 12.30pm.<\/p>\n
