Also on the list is exploring one of the UK\u2019s more underrated regions with the help of an unlimited rail pass.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Explore Wales Pass<\/a>\u00a0is essentially Wales\u2019 answer to an Interrail Pass.\u00a0It\u00a0gives holders unlimited train travel across the country on four days within an eight-day period, costing \u00a3149 for adults and \u00a374.50 for kids (there are discounts for railcard owners).\u00a0It also allows you unlimited bus journeys across all eight days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Obviously, there are\u00a0hundreds of different ways you could use the pass. You may want to stay within one particular region of the country or use it to travel as far and wide as you can in the given period. Let us offer you some inspiration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An easy place to\u00a0start things\u00a0would be\u00a0the capital city of\u00a0Cardiff. Some of our favourite places there<\/a> include the city\u2019s only Michelin star restaurant Gorse<\/a>, the packed National Museum<\/a>\u00a0and the buzzy Cardiff Docks, as well as cool neighbourhood Canton<\/a>, which is home to Chapters Art Gallery<\/a>\u00a0and brilliant caffs like\u00a0Hard Lines Coffee<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Ffloc<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A 20-minute train ride from Cardiff Central will take you to the town of Caerphilly, which is home to\u00a0one of our other best things to do this year. Caerphilly Castle is the largest\u00a0fortress\u00a0in Wales and\u00a0in 2025 reopened after\u00a0a two-year \u00a38 million\u00a0makeover. Go to see the medieval dining room\u00a0restored to its former glory and to check out\u00a0new interactive exhibits spilling the castle\u2019s juiciest secrets.<\/p>\n

From there, you could hop on train heading north to spend a while in\u00a0Time Out\u2019s second most underrated destination in Europe<\/a>\u00a0Machynlleth.\u00a0Alternatively, you could use the pass to get to the mesmerising island of Anglesey or the whimsical folly town of Portmeirion, both of which appear on Time Out\u2019s roundup of the UK\u2019s best places to visit in 2026.<\/a>\u00a0If you happen to be in Wales in August, you could use your pass to take the train to Pembrokeshire and celebrate 850 years of the National Eisteddfod, a huge\u00a0week-long\u00a0festival\u00a0of Welsh food, drink, music, art, language and culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n
