{"id":70049,"date":"2025-05-03T02:55:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-03T02:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/70049\/"},"modified":"2025-05-03T02:55:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T02:55:08","slug":"russia-ukraine-war-list-of-key-events-day-1164-russia-ukraine-war-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/70049\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 1,164 | Russia-Ukraine war News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">These are the key events on day 1,164 of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Here is where things stand on Saturday, May 3:<\/p>\n<p>Fighting<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>A resident was killed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/1\/16\/russians-in-kherson-train-on-civilians-deadly-drones-stalk-south-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine\u2019s southern Kherson region<\/a>\u00a0when a fallen attack drone detonated as the victim was trying to carry it away from a residential house.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"tr-story-p1\">At least 46 people were injured after Russia launched a mass drone attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine\u2019s second-largest city, hitting a high-rise apartment block and triggering fires.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"tr-story-p1\">Kharkiv\u2019s Mayor Ihor Terekhov said there had been Russian strikes on 12 locations in four central districts of the city.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Terekhov said an 11-year-old child was among those injured in the latest Russian attack, and eight of the injured were being treated at a hospital.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"tr-story-p1\">Russia said its forces were continuing to create a \u201csecurity strip\u201d in border areas of Ukraine\u2019s Sumy region after driving Ukrainian troops out of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/program\/between-us\/2024\/9\/12\/fleeing-kursk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kursk region<\/a>, just across the border in western Russia.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>More than 20 people were injured after Russian strikes hit the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia.<\/li>\n<li>Ukrainian regional authorities said four people were also injured in a Russian joint drone and artillery attack on localities east of Nikopol city in southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region.<\/li>\n<li>Russia\u2019s Ministry of Defence reports that its air defence units destroyed 10 Ukrainian drones in an hour. Eight of the drones were intercepted over the border region of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/11\/19\/russia-warns-ukraines-atacms-attacks-mark-new-phase-of-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bryansk<\/a> and two over Russian-annexed Crimea.<\/li>\n<li>Yury Slyusar, acting governor of Russia\u2019s Rostov region, located on Ukraine\u2019s eastern border, said Russian air defence units destroyed Ukrainian drones over five districts. Falling fragments from the destroyed drones had damaged some homes, he said, but there were no casualties.<\/li>\n<li>Ukraine\u2019s internal security agency, the SBU, accused Russian intelligence of orchestrating an attempt to assassinate prominent Ukrainian blogger Serhii Sternenko, accusing an unnamed 45-year-old woman of carrying out the failed gun attack that injured the target.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Military aid<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounces the latest barrage of drone strikes on civilian areas of Ukraine, while complaining that the country\u2019s allies were moving too slowly in helping beef up his country\u2019s air defence capability.<\/li>\n<li>The United States Department of State has approved the potential sale of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/8\/1\/f-16-fighter-jets-land-in-ukraine-to-bolster-defence-against-russia-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F-16 training<\/a> and sustainment, along with related equipment, to Ukraine for $310m, according to the Pentagon. The sale could include aircraft modifications and upgrades, flight training and maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sanctions<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"tr-story-p1\">New economic sanctions are being readied against Russia to intensify pressure on Moscow to embrace US President Donald Trump\u2019s efforts to end its war on Ukraine, three US officials said. The targets include the state-owned Russian energy giant Gazprom.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Politics and diplomacy<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>Ukrainian armed forces will take part in a British military procession on Monday celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, which marks the end of fighting on the continent during World War II.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"tr-story-p1\">US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have renewed calls on Russia and Ukraine to reach a peace deal, saying there was no clear end in sight to the conflict and warning that Trump needed a breakthrough \u201cvery soon\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"These are the key events on day 1,164 of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.
