Prestwick Golf Club has been given the green light to make significant changes to its drinks license.<\/p>\n

In its application for a variation to its premises license, the club said that it would pave the way for the final stage of a major clubhouse redevelopment.<\/p>\n

The club\u2019s licence was originally granted in 2009 and has seen minimal changes since.<\/p>\n

Licensing Standards Officer Catrina Andrews told South Ayrshire Licensing Board that discussions had taken place over several months to ensure the updated licence would support the long-term sustainability of the historic members\u2019 club.<\/p>\n

A full renovation of the upper floor of the clubhouse is now nearing completion.<\/p>\n

The work includes new office space alongside a modernised bar and restaurant area, accessed directly from the main street.<\/p>\n

The investment was described as important to improve both safety and the overall standard of the premises.<\/p>\n

Importantly, the club confirmed it will continue to operate strictly on a members-and-guests-only basis, with no move towards general public access.<\/p>\n

The approved licence changes include permission to employ young people as waiting staff, updates to reflect current operating practices, and a change to core hours allowing alcohol sales from 9am.<\/p>\n

This earlier start is intended to accommodate early morning golf events and mirrors similar approvals granted to other golf clubs in recent years.<\/p>\n

The board also agreed to make permanent a \u201cgolf buggy bar\u201d service, which has operated successfully for several seasons under occasional licences without any concerns.<\/p>\n

Councillors welcomed the scale of the investment, describing it as a positive step that strengthens the club\u2019s future while preserving its traditional members\u2019 ethos.
