his home tournament in Rome.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The world number one took home his third Major title in January, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/rod-laver-reacts-as-jannik-sinner-beats-alexander-zverev-in-the-australian-open-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner beat Alexander Zverev<\/a> in the final of the Australian Open.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, news broke that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/nick-kyrgios-delivers-his-instant-thoughts-after-jannik-sinner-is-banned-from-tennis-for-three-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner had accepted a three-month suspension<\/a> from tennis, which would see him miss the first four Masters 1000 tournaments of the year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/>Photo by Kelly Defina\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Luckily for the 23-year-old, the timing of the suspension allows him to return for his home <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/italian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Open<\/a>, where supporters can welcome Sinner back to action.<\/p>\n<p>As Sinner\u2019s preparation ramps up, one of his closest friends on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Tour<\/a> has fulfilled a promise he made earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo Sonego keeps his promise and trains with Jannik Sinner ahead of his return in Rome<\/p>\n<p>When news broke of Sinner\u2019s suspension earlier this year, his Italian teammate, Lorenzo Sonego, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.repubblica.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">la Repubblica<\/a> he would be happy to train with him as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik [Sinner]<\/a> can always count on me,\u201d he Images<\/p>\n<p>Keeping his promise to the world number one, Sonego trained with Sinner in Monte-Carlo recently, sharing a picture on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner and Sonego have played one another five times previously on the ATP Tour, with the former coming out victorious on all five href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> two years ago, when Sinner advanced to the third round with a straight-sets win.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Sonego will likely have fonder memories from the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, where he and Sinner helped bring the title home to Italy for the first time since 1976.<\/p>\n<p>After Sinner bravely fought back from the brink to keep the semi-final tie alive with a win against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Novak Djokovic<\/a> in the singles, he and Sonego took on Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic in the doubles.<\/p>\n<p>The Italians produced a fine display to book their place in the final of the 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/davis-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Davis Cup<\/a>, where Matteo Arnaldi and Sinner won their singles matches to clinch the 2025, but it\u2019ll certainly be something to keep an eye on.<\/p>\n<p>Is Jannik Sinner the favorite for the 2025 Italian Open?<\/p>\n<p>Having missed three months due to suspension, Sinner will be eager to return with a big win at his home event.<\/p>\n<p>Things haven\u2019t gone too well for him in Rome over the years, however, as the Italian has yet to reach the semi-finals of the Italian rel=\"noopener\">Francisco Cerundolo<\/a> in the fourth round, having led by a set to love.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s 2025 title hopes have been boosted by the shortcomings of some of his biggest target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> remain prominent after he skipped the Madrid Open due to injury, and defending champion Alexander Zverev has yet to show any consistent form in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The path to a maiden Italian Open title looks clearer than ever for Sinner, as he will no doubt be roared on by the crowd in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner will return to action at the 2025
