\nFive men from Birmingham face lengthy jail sentences after a man was left with serious injuries after being shot with a sawn-off shotgun as he sat in his car in Darlaston. They all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following an incident where a man was shot on Charles Foster Street, Darlaston, on 11 October last year.(Image: )<\/p>\n
They plotted to gun down a dad on his doorstep as he returned home from the school run – now they are behind bars for more than 65 years.<\/p>\n
The Birmingham<\/a> gang carried out a ‘reconnaissance’ trip and acquired a double-barrelled shotgun 12 days before they set out on their ‘revenge’ mission in the Black Country.<\/p>\n As victim Nadeem Khan pulled up on his driveway and made a call from inside his BMW, little did he know that a masked gunman was just seconds away from opening fire.<\/p>\n Chilling CCTV footage captured a Toyota C-HR pull up outside the property before reversing slightly and bumping into a car parked in the street.<\/p>\n A rear window rolled down, with the gunman dramatically shooting twice towards Mr Khan.<\/p>\n Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how Mr Khan shouted to those on the call “phone the police, I’ve been shot” and “I’m dead”.<\/a><\/p>\n The gunman quickly left the Toyota, reloaded and chased his target around the BMW, firing a third shot at Mr Khan.<\/p>\n A fourth shot was fired through the car before the gunman fled the scene in the Toyota.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> ‘Selfish’ man, 31, infected victim with HIV after keeping diagnosis a secret<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The shooting at about 9am in Charles Foster Street, Darlaston, has since been described as a ‘dispute between different factions’ – yet no motive has been found.<\/p>\n Five men admitted conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life on the second day of their trial last July.<\/p>\n They were sentenced for their part in the shooting on Monday, January 12.<\/p>\n Judge Michael Chambers KC slammed the criminals for their disregard of those nearby, who were said to be terrified when the ordeal unfolded.<\/p>\n Sentencing, the judge said: “This is another case in which, in the West Midlands, a dispute between different factions has been attempted to be resolved by a planned, targeted shooting in a public place in broad daylight, with no regard or fear for the impact on the local community.”<\/p>\n He added: “The shooting was timed to take place when you knew he would be returning from his school run – by inference, you knew that he had children.”<\/p>\n Police at the scene in Charles Foster Street, Darlaston.(Image: )<\/p>\n The firearm was acquired ‘at least 12 days’ before the shooting, the court heard.<\/p>\n The judge said: “It was accepted by the Crown that none of your were the actual shooter but in my judgement, that matters not.”<\/p>\n The motive behind the shooting is unknown but ‘it is clear’ that all defendants ‘intended that the victim should suffer grievous bodily harm’, Judge Chambers said.<\/p>\n He said: “Clearly, by inference, there was some form of revenge involved.”<\/p>\n The judge went on to say: “This was clearly a planned retribution on the streets of Darlaston involving, by inference, rival factions, in daylight hours, with no concerns for the community.<\/p>\n “In each case, your role was equally culpable.<\/p>\n “You each knew what was proposed and you each played a significant role.”<\/p>\n Members of the public were so scared that one nearby school is said to have cancelled a church trip’, keeping children inside on safety grounds.<\/p>\n Judge Chambers said: “Numerous residents of Charles Foster Street provided statements to the police describing their fear during this incident and how they assisted Mr Khan immediately afterwards.”<\/p>\n Mr Khan suffered ‘serious and extensive’ injuries as a result of the shooting on October 11, 2024.<\/p>\n They have had a ‘permanent effect on his ability to carry out everyday functions’, the judge said.<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Francis Nock, from West Midlands Police’s major crime team, added: “The sentences handed out to these five defendants sends out a clear message that such violence displayed with weapons, as in this case, will simply not be tolerated on our streets.<\/p>\n “The attack was premeditated with the offenders demonstrating a high degree of malice and an intention to cause the most serious of harm.<\/p>\n “Officers worked extensively on the case to identify the suspects through CCTV and we were able to demonstrate the meticulous planning that had taken place prior to the shooting.”<\/p>\n Read more on this case from court here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n
