{"id":706590,"date":"2026-01-19T15:12:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T15:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/706590\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T15:12:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T15:12:15","slug":"tour-de-france-2027-a-global-opportunity-to-promote-tourism-in-mid-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/706590\/","title":{"rendered":"Tour de France 2027 a \u201cglobal opportunity\u201d to promote tourism in Mid Wales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/63261ca2-062f-47f1-9400-e25d875166d7.jpg\"   alt=\"Powis Castle lit up on Thursday night\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-full max-w-none\"\/>Powis Castle lit up on Thursday night<\/p>\n<p>Stage three of the men\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.letour.fr\/en\/the-race\/grands-departs\/grand-depart-2027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Tour de France<\/a>, the world\u2019s largest annual sporting event, will start in Welshpool on Sunday, July 4 and finish in Cardiff.<\/p>\n<p>The route will take the world\u2019s top cyclists through some of Mid Wales\u2019 most distinctive landscapes and challenging climbs in Powys, including Bannau Brycheiniog.<\/p>\n<p>Zoe Hawkins, chief executive of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mwtcymru.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MWT Cymru (Mid Wales Tourism),<\/a> says hosting a stage of the Tour de France provides a global opportunity to showcase the region to new audiences.<\/p>\n<p>A not for profit, membership organisation that leads the marketing of Mid Wales as a visitor destination, MWT Cymru is supported by more than 600 tourism and hospitality businesses across <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Powys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Powys<\/a>, Ceredigion and Meirionnydd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tour de France is watched by millions of people around the world and the exposure it brings goes far beyond the day of the race itself,\u201d said Zoe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Mid Wales, this is a chance to put our landscapes, towns and communities on a global stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur focus is on helping member businesses to turn that global attention into long term benefits for the region. Our role is to ensure Mid Wales makes the most of the opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be working closely with our businesses on joint marketing campaigns, itineraries and experiences that encourage people who come here for the cycling to stay longer, explore the region and leave with Mid Wales firmly in mind as a destination to return to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor many visitors, this will be their first introduction to Mid Wales and our chance to develop a lasting relationship with them, ensuring that communities and towns across Mid Wales feel the benefits well beyond race day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBringing an event of this scale to Mid Wales takes a huge amount of work, collaboration and long-term commitment. It\u2019s a fantastic opportunity for our entire region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhilst the race starts at Welshpool and travels through Newtown, Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells, Brecon, before ending in Cardiff, the benefits will extend across the whole of Mid Wales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis famous cycling event will deliver significant economic benefit to our rural destinations, bringing millions of pounds into local economies through accommodation, food and drink, visitor attractions and local services.
