{"id":70775,"date":"2025-05-03T09:19:42","date_gmt":"2025-05-03T09:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/70775\/"},"modified":"2025-05-03T09:19:42","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T09:19:42","slug":"closure-of-one-of-a-kind-psychotherapy-day-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/70775\/","title":{"rendered":"closure of one-of-a-kind psychotherapy day programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/4OUE8DT_image_crop_12007\" width=\"1050\" height=\"699\" alt=\"no caption\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nSegar House\u00a0is the only publicly-funded intensive psychotherapy day programme of its kind in New Zealand.<br \/>\nPhoto: 123rf\n<\/p>\n<p>For decades\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthpoint.co.nz\/segar-house-rauaroha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Segar House<\/a>\u00a0has helped people in Auckland experiencing self-harm, early life trauma, long-standing depression or chronic suicidality.<\/p>\n<p>It offers\u00a0a publicly-funded, intensive psychotherapy day programme &#8211; the only one of its kind in the country.<\/p>\n<p>But under a change proposal from Te Whatu Ora-Health New Zealand the programme is set to be disestablished; its resources and staff &#8220;re-invested&#8221; elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal cites low participant numbers, transport barriers to access and Covid having an impact on a revamp of the day programme.<\/p>\n<p>But Kyle MacDonald, a psychotherapist who worked at Segar House for a number of years, says the closure is short-sighted &#8211; the programme was always designed to be resource-intensive up front, to prevent people needing further therapy down the line.<\/p>\n<p>He joins Kathryn, along with a former patient who says the Segar House programme helped save her life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Segar House\u00a0is the only publicly-funded intensive psychotherapy day programme of its kind in New Zealand.
