Premier League legend Alan Shearer perfectly summed up his telling reaction to Manchester United\u2019s sensational performance against Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manchester City arrived at Old Trafford<\/a> at the weekend and Pep Guardiola\u2019s<\/a> men were dealt a massive blow in their Premier League title challenge this season.<\/p>\n

Manchester United<\/a> produced a stunning display on Saturday and Michael Carrick<\/a> picked up a huge win in his first match in charge of the Premier League club.<\/p>\n

Interim boss Michael Carrick watched on from the Old Trafford dugout as Bryan Mbeumo<\/a> broke the deadlock in the second half after a sensational counter-attack.<\/p>\n

Following on from Bryan Mbeumo\u2019s impact, Patrick Dorgu<\/a> added his name to the scoresheet after he poked home a close-range finish from a Matheus Cunha<\/a> cross.<\/p>\n

Manchester United\u2019s 2-0 victory over Manchester City<\/a> has kept the Red Devils well and truly in the top-four picture in the Premier League table this season.<\/p>\n

City were helpless against Man Utd<\/a> and Pep Guardiola<\/a> had little response to the fantastic performance from Michael Carrick\u2019s men at Old Trafford on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Alan Shearer<\/a> was left even more surprised with how City were essentially shut out of the chance to take advantage of Man Utd\u2019s early bookings of Luke Shaw<\/a> and Diogo Dalot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat surprised me is that Man United\u2019s [two] full-backs got booked relatively early,\u201d he said on The Rest Is Football<\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m thinking, \u2018Here we go, [Antoine] Semenyo and [Jeremy] Doku.\u2019 Every time they get the ball, I thought, \u2018Go on, go at them.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cBut they couldn\u2019t, because there were two vs one all the time, and that\u2019s how United worked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey worked it so well. When the ball went out wide, you know that\u2019s a huge threat because they\u2019re very talented players, those two wingers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if you don\u2019t double up and make it very tough, then more often than not, they get the better of you.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut they never went past Shaw or Dalot at all. They were absolutely outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alan Shearer\u2019s point about Senne Lammens speaks volumes about every Man Utd player against Man City<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shearer insisted that \u201cevery single Man United player\u201d outside of Senne Lammens<\/a> could have been up for the Man of the Match award after the Man City match.<\/p>\n

However, the former Newcastle and England striker\u2019s singling out of Senne Lammens was not even due to a critical assessment of the United star\u2019s display.<\/p>\n

Michael Carrick is off to the PERFECT START at Man Utd, and he wants more! <\/p>\n

\u201cDo you know what? There\u2019s an argument, other than the goalkeeper for Man United, there\u2019s an argument that every single Man United player could have been given Man of the Match because I just thought they were outstanding in every position,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

Lammens was able to keep his third Premier League clean sheet in 16 matches in the 2025-26 season since the Man Utd No 1\u2019s arrival at Old Trafford last September.<\/p>\n
