{"id":709636,"date":"2026-01-20T23:25:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T23:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/709636\/"},"modified":"2026-01-20T23:25:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T23:25:10","slug":"humans-a-human-centric-ai-startup-founded-by-anthropic-xai-google-alums-raised-480m-seed-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/709636\/","title":{"rendered":"Humans&#038;, a &#8216;human-centric&#8217; AI startup founded by Anthropic, xAI, Google alums, raised $480M seed round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/humansand.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Humans&amp;<\/a>, a startup with a philosophy that AI should empower people rather than replace them, has raised $480 million in seed funding at a $4.48 billion valuation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/01\/20\/technology\/humans-ai-anthropic-xai.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reports The New York Times.<\/a> Investors in the round include\u00a0chipmaker Nvidia, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and VC firms SV Angel, GV, and Laurene Powell Jobs\u2019 firm Emerson Collective.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The megadeal for the three-month-old company follows a trend of <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/12\/openai-co-founder-ilya-sutskevers-safe-superintelligence-reportedly-valued-at-32b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">investors throwing money<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/07\/15\/mira-muratis-thinking-machines-lab-is-worth-12b-in-seed-round\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">startups founded by breakaways<\/a> of major AI labs. Humans&amp;\u2019s founders include Andi Peng, a former Anthropic researcher who worked on reinforcement learning and post-training of Claude 3.5 through 4.5; Georges Harik, Google\u2019s seventh employee, who helped build its first advertising systems; Eric Zelikman and Yuchen He, two former xAI researchers who helped develop the Grok chatbot; and Noah Goodman, a Stanford professor of psychology and computer science.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company\u2019s 20-odd employees also come from OpenAI, Meta, Reflection, AI2, and MIT, according to the company. The startup aims to use software to help people collaborate with each other \u2014 think an AI version of an instant messaging app. One of their goals is to use existing AI techniques to train AI in new ways, like programming chatbots to request information from the user and store it for later use.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to build AI that serves \u201cas a deeper connective tissue that strengthens organizations and communities,\u201d Humans&amp; hopes to rethink \u201chow we train models at scale and how people interact with AI,\u201d per the company\u2019s web page. The startup cited a need for innovations in \u201clong-horizon and multi-agent reinforcement learning, memory, and user understanding,\u201d as well as a tightly integrated focus on both science and product development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TechCrunch has reached out for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Humans&amp; seed round, while enormous, is far from an outlier in the current AI funding environment. The largest seed round in history, for now, belongs to Thinking Machines Lab, which raised <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/07\/15\/mira-muratis-thinking-machines-lab-is-worth-12b-in-seed-round\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$2 billion<\/a> last July at a $12 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz. Founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati alongside top researchers from Meta and Google, the company initially attracted enormous enthusiasm, though the <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/01\/14\/mira-muratis-startup-thinking-machines-lab-is-losing-two-of-its-co-founders-to-openai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">departure<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/10\/11\/thinking-machines-lab-co-founder-andrew-tulloch-heads-to-meta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">half<\/a> of the company\u2019s founding team across recent months suggests that massive capital and pedigree don\u2019t guarantee immediate success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other notable mega-seed rounds include Unconventional AI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/12\/09\/unconventional-ai-confirms-its-massive-475m-seed-round\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$475 million raise<\/a> in December at a $4.5 billion valuation \u2014 the company, founded by former Databricks AI head Naveen Rao, is developing energy-efficient neuromorphic computing systems \u2014 and Lila Sciences\u2019 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercebiotech.com\/biotech\/new-flagship-backed-ai-firm-aims-build-scientific-superintelligence\" target=\"_blank\">$200 million seed round<\/a> last March for its autonomous AI-powered laboratory platform.<\/p>\n<p>Techcrunch event<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSan Francisco<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t|<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOctober 13-15, 2026\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LMArena, the AI model benchmarking platform that spun out of UC Berkeley, similarly bolted out of the gate as a commercial venture, raising $100 million at a $600 million valuation last May.
