Scottie Scheffler is looking for his first victory of 2025 after taking a six-shot lead on the opening day of The CJ Cup Byron Nelson<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scheffler, who enjoyed a remarkably successful run throughout last year, is flying.<\/p>\n

Scheffler will be eager to claim Byron Nelson glory this week<\/p>\n

He returned to Texas looking for a win that would set him up nicely for the upcoming PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club on May 15<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And the world number one\u00a0<\/strong>got off to the perfect start. After two rounds, he’s sitting on 18 under.<\/p>\n

Taylor Pendrith won this event last year, holding off Ben Kohles to win by one stroke, while other former Byron Nelson champions include Jason Day<\/a>, Billy Horschel, Sergio Garcia<\/a> and Keegan Bradley.<\/p>\n

The tournament is named after Texas golfing icon and five-time major winner Byron Nelson, who won the inaugural trophy in 1944 and was host for many years.<\/p>\n

The Byron Nelson: Date and how to follow<\/p>\n

The 2025 Byron Nelson got underway on Thursday, May 1 and will run for four rounds until Sunday, May 4.<\/p>\n

It is being held at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. The course is a par 71 and measures a total of 7,569 yards.<\/p>\n

The action will get up and running at 12:50pm UK time over the opening two days and at 1:30pm over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Texas-resident Scheffler is the standout name in the field while Canada\u2019s Pendrith just made the cut.<\/p>\n

Other stars teeing it up include Tom Kim, Sam Burns, Jordan Spieth<\/a> and Will Zalatoris.<\/p>\n

England\u2019s Matt Wallace and Harry Hall will be in action, as will the Danish Hojgaard twins – Rasmus and Nicolai.<\/p>\n

Nick Dunlap, Michael Kim, Brandt Snedeker and Joe Highsmith have withdrawn from the event.<\/p>\n

The total purse for the tournament is $9.9million, with the winner earning $1.74m while there are 500 FedExCup points up for grabs.<\/p>\n

“I wouldn’t say anxious or eager, anything like that,” Scheffler said regarding the search for his first victory in 2025.<\/p>\n

“I hit some good shots to start the round, and I kept hitting fairways and greens.<\/p>\n

“I got off to a pretty good start, and there’s three more days of the tournament. I’m just focused on going home and getting some rest.”<\/p>\n

Scheffler was also asked about his chances of securing the career Grand Slam, having watched Rory McIlroy<\/a> do so at The Masters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He added: “The feeling you get from winning a tournament is pretty special. For me, I wish it lasted longer than it did. It doesn’t really last very long.<\/p>\n

“Was it pretty awesome watching Rory win the Grand Slam? Of course it was. But as far as my life goes, I try to stay in the present. I don’t think very often about career goals.<\/p>\n

“Winning the career Grand Slam, I think that’s something that any golfer would dream of, but at the end of the day, I’m just trying to get the most out of myself. That’s about it.”<\/p>\n
