{"id":713752,"date":"2026-01-22T19:58:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T19:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/713752\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T19:58:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T19:58:23","slug":"london-man-24-jailed-after-threatening-to-rape-teenage-girl-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/713752\/","title":{"rendered":"London man, 24, jailed after threatening to rape teenage girl online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A man has been jailed for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/rape\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:threatening to rape a teenage girl;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">threatening to rape a teenage girl<\/a> and encouraging her to self-harm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Shabaz Khokar, 24, threatened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/staffordshire\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the victim in Staffordshire;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the victim in Staffordshire<\/a> over social media, attaching images of train tickets he had purchased to travel to her home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police were alerted to the threat, and Khokar was arrested at a Staffordshire railway station in August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Khokar was released on conditional bail, but proceeded to send further messages to the victim telling her to self-harm, and demanding she drop the case against him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He was arrested a second time and later charged.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Khokar was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday (PA Archive)\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"639\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/26b4f2bc3e7efdfd73bedeb5622c57bc.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Khokar was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday (PA Archive)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Khokar, of Greenwich, admitted several offences at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/woolwich-crown-court\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Woolwich Crown Court;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Woolwich Crown Court<\/a> on Monday and was imprisoned for two years and five months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The offences included: sending communication threatening death or serious harm; encouraging or assisting serious self-harm by another; and committing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Khokar was also served with an indefinite restraining order against the victim as part of his sentence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/staffordshire-police\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Staffordshire Police;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Staffordshire Police<\/a>, the case marked the first sentencing for the force under section 184 of the Online Safety Act 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The legislation introduced a number of new offences, which included encouraging or assisting serious self-harm, <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/upskirting-cyber-flashing-laws-england-140309636.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:cyberflashing;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cyberflashing<\/a>, sending false information intended to cause non-trivial harm, threatening communications, intimate image abuse and epilepsy trolling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The new legislation came into effect in January 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A man has been jailed for threatening to rape a teenage girl and encouraging her to self-harm.
