{"id":71727,"date":"2025-05-03T17:39:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-03T17:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/71727\/"},"modified":"2025-05-03T17:39:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T17:39:08","slug":"liverpool-seriously-targeting-26m-game-changer-in-midfield-after-learning-hes-been-put-up-for-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/71727\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool seriously targeting \u00a326m &#8216;game-changer&#8217; in midfield after learning he&#8217;s been put up for sale"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Liverpool\u2019s transfer priorities are starting to become clearer after the Reds were crowned Premier League champions last week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It has been a remarkable season at Anfield, with few backing Arne Slot to deliver a league championship in his first year as head coach.<\/p>\n<p>But if Slot was able to capitalise on low expectations this year, he won\u2019t be able to do the same in 2025\/26. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool<\/a> may well start the season as favourites.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty will depend on what happens in the transfer market, with Slot looking likely to add a new centre-forward and a left-back to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/first-team-squad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool squad<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having squeezed as much as possible out of his midfield this season, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/manager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool head coach<\/a> may well need another option in the middle of the park, too.<\/p>\n<p>And as they search for the right player to provide competition for Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones, Liverpool are reportedly getting serious in their interest in Genoa\u2019s Morten Frendrup. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2194358397-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Giuseppe Maffia\/NurPhoto via Getty Images\" \/>Photo by Giuseppe Maffia\/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesGenoa readying Morten Frendrup sale<\/p>\n<p>With so many good options in midfield already, what Liverpool need is a player Slot trusts more than current back-up Wataru Endo.<\/p>\n<p>There have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/2025\/05\/02\/whether-arne-slot-is-planning-to-keep-wataru-endo-at-liverpool-amid-summer-interest-from-the-bundesliga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggestions that Endo could stay at Liverpool<\/a>, but there\u2019s little question the Reds could do with an option who Slot is willing to throw in to start Premier League matches.<\/p>\n<p>Frendrup could be that option. And according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamtalk.com\/liverpool\/transfers-sources-serious-stat-leading-serie-a-star-genoa-cash-in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Team TALK<\/a>, the 24-year-old is set to be put up for sale this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Genoa are said to be keen to cash in on Frendrup and will reportedly sell the Dane for around \u00a326m. Frendrup is claimed to be ready for the next step in his career, with Liverpool \u2018firmly in the mix\u2019 to sign him.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/2025\/05\/03\/liverpool-make-transfer-approach-for-exceptional-brazil-international-after-agent-talks-confirmed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool make transfer approach for \u00a330m Brazil international after recent agent talks<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Reds have reportedly been scouting Frendrup for more than a year, with scouts said to have been impressed by his \u2018strong defensive stats.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>As a result, it\u2019s claimed Liverpool now see Frendrup as a \u2018serious target\u2019 in their hunt to sign a rotational midfield option at a competitive price.<\/p>\n<p>Frendrup would tick boxes for Liverpool<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to understand why Liverpool are keen on Frendrup as a potential rotational option.<\/p>\n<p>At 24 he is young, but not too young, has good experience in a top five European league and is also a full Danish international.<\/p>\n<p>But for all his quality, Frendrup is get-able at a good price and would seemingly not expect to join Liverpool and instantly command a place in the team.<\/p>\n<p>Over time, perhaps he could do that, though. Former Genoa manager Alberto Gilardino spoke glowingly about Frendrup in January 2024, suggesting the midfielder could play at a higher level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMorten is a player who can play anywhere,\u201d Gilardino said via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goal.com\/en-gb\/lists\/liverpool-next-no-6-morten-frendrup-danish-defensive-midfielder-shining-serie-a\/bltd92b68bc510779a6#cs701fbf542ee14e36\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">GOAL<\/a>. \u201cHe has dynamism, he has great speed in his first few steps, he is a ball-winner and a game-changer.
