Fire crews are tackling a blaze at a derelict building in Salford<\/a> on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The blaze is said to be producing a large amount of smoke, leading the fire service to issue a warning to residents in the surrounding area.<\/p>\n

They’re being asked to keep windows and doors shut to prevent smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n

Fire crews were called to Greenleach Lane, near Worsley<\/a> Woods in Worsley, at around 7.40pm.<\/p>\n

It’s understood the building involved is the old St Joseph convent. It was said by the fire service to be derelict, but no further description or details have been provided.<\/p>\n

There’s not thought to be anyone injured.<\/p>\n

In a statement on social media shortly after 9pm on Saturday, a spokesperson for the fire service said: “Our crews are currently tackling a derelict building fire on Greenleach Lane, Worsley.<\/p>\n

“Due to smoke in the area, residents who live nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.”<\/p>\n

In a statement to the M.E.N., the fire service added: “Shortly after 7.40pm on Saturday 24 January, four fire engines from Farnworth, Agecroft and Eccles<\/a> fire stations, and the specialist Scorpion appliance from Salford Community Fire Station, were called to attend a derelict building fire on Greenleach Lane, Worsley.<\/p>\n

“Firefighters arrived quickly and are using jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Residents who live nearby are advised to close their windows and doors because of the smoke in the area.”<\/p>\n
