A neighbour saw emergency services performing CPR on an injured man underneath a blood-stained window ledge. The unnamed man, in his 30s, was fatally stabbed inside a flat on Sherlock Avenue in Haydock<\/a> yesterday, Friday May 2.<\/p>\n Merseyside Police<\/a> confirmed officers attended the scene at around 10.25pm along with the North West Ambulance Service<\/a> where they found a man with stab injuries. He was pronounced dead despite the best efforts of the emergency services.<\/p>\n The force said this morning that a 39-year-old woman from Billinge had been arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in police custody to be questioned<\/a>.<\/p>\n In an update at around 4.30pm, Merseyside Police said: “Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing at an address in Haydock have arrested a second person.” They said that a 40-year-old man from Liverpool had been arrested in connection with the stabbing.<\/p>\n A local man who lives on Sherlock Avenue told the ECHO<\/a> he “saw the blue lights” at around 10.30pm before looking out of his window and seeing “about 10 police cars and ambulances.” Speaking to the ECHO<\/a> outside the front of his bungalow, the man, who did not want to be named, said: “I keep myself to myself.<\/p>\n “All the other neighbours were standing out here until 3am in the morning in their pyjamas watching it all. Put it this way: I could see the doctors trying to save him. It was going on for about an hour.”<\/p>\n When the ECHO<\/a> arrived at the Haydock suburb, south-east of the famous racecourse<\/a> and close to the East Lancashire Road<\/a>, a police cordon covered a section of the road and the flat – the upstairs of a semi-detached terrace house. Three police vehicles and a handful of officers guarded the entrances to the cordon, while several detectives carried out house-to-house enquiries.<\/p>\n A white tent had been erected in the front garden of the flats, while a Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service barrier<\/a> blocked it from view. A Merseyside Police forensic team<\/a> could be seen photographing the front and back gardens and entering the flat through a door. A blood smear could be seen on the window ledge of one of the <\/a>upstairs windows.<\/p>\n Despite the significant police presence in the area, local residents continued about their days. A number of people watched the ongoing police efforts from their front gardens.<\/p>\n A woman who lived on Oak Avenue told the ECHO<\/a> she heard “shouting” and then police sirens at around 10.30pm when she was in her back garden. However, she added she did not realise the seriousness of the incident until she left her house and saw the white tent outside the flats.<\/p>\n The woman added she knew the man who lived in the flat “in passing” but did not know his name.
