A new bridge being built in one of Europe’s most popular countries is on track to break records. The SE-40 motorway bridge<\/a> in Seville<\/a>, Spain, will become the highest bridge in Europe<\/a> once completed. The huge structure is set to measure at least 70.8 metres in height. It will form part of the SE-40 ring road, which encircles Seville as a metropolitan ring, stretching 77.6 kilometres.<\/p>\n

Construction of the complex bridge<\/a> is scheduled for this year, with the aim of reducing congestion on the SE-30 route, the main ring road for the entire metropolitan area.<\/p>\n

The project is approved by\u00a0Spain<\/a>‘s Ministry of Transport, is being coordinated by the public engineering company Ineco, with the structural design being carried out by a joint venture of Tylin Spain SL and MC2 Estudio de Ingenier\u00eda, and the preliminary concept studies prepared by Ayesa, one of Spain’s leading IT service providers.<\/p>\n

The bridge is expected to cost 700 million euros, which is equivalent to around \u00a3606 million. It will feature a series of viaducts totalling 3.5km, including a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Guadalquivir River.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Transport, the bridge will accommodate up to 2,800 vehicles per hour. Plans reveal that it will have four lanes in each direction, as well as a wide pedestrian path and a two-way cycle lane across a deck measuring over 42 metres wide, reports\u00a0Murcia Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Ministry described the structure awaiting completion as part of the SE-40 road project as “the most important bridge built by the General Directorate of Highways in the last two decades”.<\/p>\n

There are already five sections of the SE-40 that make up around half of the planned 77km ring road, which is now open.
