A man has been fined more than \u00a34,100 after he was caught on camera dumping black bin bags in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Birmingham City Council’s Waste Enforcement team launched an investigation after several sacks of rubbish were abandoned on Belle Walk in Moseley, just after midnight on Feb 7, 2024.<\/p>\n

They traced it back to an offender who admitted guilt to one charge of depositing controlled waste at Birmingham Magistrates Court last October.<\/p>\n

The defendant, from Coventry<\/a>, was fined \u00a3615, with costs of \u00a33,490 bringing the total to \u00a34,105.<\/p>\n

Following the case, Councillor Izzy Knowles said residents were fed-up of constantly cleaning up after offenders spoiling their street, reports Birmingham Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2025 Moseley Litterbusters collected over 3000 bags of litter from local streets, parks and open spaces.<\/p>\n

Councillor Knowles said: “The CCTV footage clearly showed the offence and the council fly tipping team took on the investigation.<\/p>\n

“Although it took a long time to get to court I was very pleased to see it was pursued and the offender was fined with costs awarded.<\/p>\n

“Fly tipping costs the public purse and private land owners millions of pounds every year.<\/p>\n

“Keep Britain Tidy estimates 1.15 million incidents between April 2023 and March 2024, cost the economy \u00a31bn, 60 per cent of dumped waste was household waste.<\/p>\n

“Fly-tipping and litter causes huge damage to the environment, as it gets into the water courses and soil. It makes streets and public places look neglected and leads to increased anti social behaviour and fear of crime.<\/p>\n

“Prosecutions for fly tipping and littering, although welcome, are the tip of the iceberg.<\/p>\n

“We need to see a huge increase in awareness, education and enforcement to end this scourge on our communities once and for all.”<\/p>\n
