The Perth Scorchers have claimed a record-extending sixth BBL title with a regulation, six wicket victory over the Sydney Sixers.<\/p>\n

55, 108 raucous fans watched on as a sleek, professional Perth outfit hardly broke a sweat in dispatching their meek, underwhelming arch nemeses.<\/p>\n

English veteran David Payne headlined an inspired Scorchers bowling effort, picking up figures of 3-18 in a player-of-the-match performance.<\/p>\n

Requiring just 133 for victory, the Scorchers cantered home with 15 balls to spare, bringing Perth to its feet with Sydney’s magenta half already well and truly on its knees.<\/p>\n

“It’s a really satisfying feeling. This is a really enjoyable time of the year for us, but a lot of hard work goes into it,” Scorchers captain Ashton Turner told Fox post-game.<\/p>\n

“A mountain of work has gone on on the field but also behind the scenes to allow us to play the cricket that has been good enough to win this competition.<\/p>\n

“It feels like a weight has lifted off our shoulders.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Sixers were never able to get going against a disciplined, accurate Scorchers attack, with only Steve Smith (24) finding the middle of the bat with any authority.<\/p>\n

But the in-form dynamo was out LBW to Aaron Hardie with the Sixers on 2-34, leaving his desperately out of touch teammates to limp their way to a well under-par 132.<\/p>\n

Their innings really broke down in the first over of the power surge, when Payne, in the midst of a slower ball clinic, picked up the wickets of Lachie Shaw (14) and captain Moises Henriques (24) in the space of three deliveries.<\/p>\n

Fellow seamers Jhye Richardson (3-32) and Mahli Beardman (2-29) were similarly excellent, while finger spinner Cooper Connolly (0-14) was miserly, going at under five runs an over and conceding just a single boundary.<\/p>\n

Intent on not letting his side’s significant advantage go to waste, Mitch Marsh (44) pulled the first ball of the chase for a dominant, tone-setting six in an ominous sign for the Sixers.<\/p>\n

He and Finn Allen (36) combined for an 80-run opening stand to ensure the game was all but won by the half-way point of their innings, with Mitchell Starc (1-33) unable to conjure some 11th hour magic as his dream summer drew to an anticlimactic close.<\/p>\n

Jack Edwards completed a diving, one-handed catch to dismiss Turner (2) with one of the more remarkable grabs of the season, before Josh Inglis (29 not out) completed the most assured of finals performances with a six back over the head of bowler Ben Dwarshuis.<\/p>\n

    The Scorchers are BBL champions for the sixth time, cantering to a six wicket win over the Sydney Sixers.<\/p>\n

    Mitch Marsh (44) and Finn Allen (36) starred with the bat, but really, all the damage was done earlier in the evening.<\/p>\n

    The Sixers were messy and careless in their innings of 132, with only Steve Smith (24) looking anywhere near his best.<\/p>\n

    This is undoubtedly a very difficult situation for the Sixers, but you do have to question some of their bowling here.<\/p>\n

    Marsh has been so comfortable in playing those pull shots today, and has had plenty of opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n

    But it’s a good recovery from Dwarshuis, who gets out of the over with just a leg bye from its final four deliveries.<\/p>\n

    Abbott does well to square Marsh up a touch, but the batters edge goes straight to ground and down to third for another single.<\/p>\n

    The Scorchers work another couple singles to end the over.<\/p>\n

    Cruising is the word the comes to mind.<\/p>\n
