{"id":720273,"date":"2026-01-25T18:36:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T18:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/720273\/"},"modified":"2026-01-25T18:36:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T18:36:12","slug":"flood-warnings-in-place-as-ouse-and-derwent-river-levels-rise-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/720273\/","title":{"rendered":"Flood warnings in place as Ouse and Derwent river levels rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Four flood warnings have been issued for North Yorkshire due to high river levels with residents urged to avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Environment Agency (EA) warnings are in place for riverside properties in York city centre, St George&#8217;s Field and Queen&#8217;s Staith, Naburn Lock, and Buttercrambe Mill north of Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The River Ouse level on the Viking Recorder station in York reached just over 3.5m (11.5ft) on Sunday morning, with property flooding possible when levels exceed 3m (9.8ft).<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Levels of the Derwent at Buttercrambe were recorded as 1.46m (4.7ft) with property flooding possible when it goes above 1.3m (4.2ft), the EA said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">In York city centre, flood gates and the Foss Barrier are in operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Locations most affected in the city are properties on King&#8217;s Staith and areas from Lendal Bridge to Millennium Bridge. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Flooding is also expected along Queen&#8217;s Staith, South Esplanade, Friars Terrace, Tower Place, the St George&#8217;s Field car park and Rowntree Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">An EA spokesperson said: &#8220;We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and start acting on your flood plan if you have one and activate any flood protection products you may have.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Four flood warnings have been issued for North Yorkshire due to high river levels with residents urged to&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":720274,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3843],"tags":[728,70,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-720273","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-environment","8":"tag-environment","9":"tag-science","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115957188683066357","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/720273","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=720273"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/720273\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/720274"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=720273"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=720273"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=720273"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
