{"id":721960,"date":"2026-01-26T13:51:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T13:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/721960\/"},"modified":"2026-01-26T13:51:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T13:51:13","slug":"no-mr-trump-offshore-wind-is-for-winners-says-uks-miliband-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/721960\/","title":{"rendered":"No, Mr. Trump, offshore wind is for \u2018winners,\u2019 says UK\u2019s Miliband \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cI think offshore wind is for winners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/trump-insults-europe-makes-his-pitch-for-greenland\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/trump-insults-europe-makes-his-pitch-for-greenland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reiterated his deep-seated loathing for wind energy<\/a>, saying: \u201cThere are windmills all over Europe. &#8230; They are losers.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Trump also claimed, falsely, that China, despite making most of the world\u2019s wind turbines, don\u2019t use them and only \u201csell them to the stupid people that buy them.\u201d China has by far the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irena.org\/Data\/View-data-by-topic\/Capacity-and-Generation\/Country-Rankings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">world\u2019s largest<\/a> wind power generation capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Energy ministers from the U.K., Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands signed a deal Monday at the third North Sea Summit to deliver 100 gigawatts of joint offshore wind projects.<\/p>\n<p>Miliband said that there was still \u201ccommon ground\u201d to be found with the Trump administration on energy, including around the development of new nuclear technology.<\/p>\n<p>But he added: \u201cDifferent countries will pursue their own national interests.
