The funeral of Wales and Leeds United legend Terry Yorath was held in Leeds on Monday and attended by a whole host of people from the football world who paid their respects<\/p>\n

Terry Yorath has been laid to rest in an emotional funeral service in Leeds. The former Wales manager and Leeds United<\/a> legend sadly passed away earlier in January<\/a> at the age of 75.<\/p>\n

His children Louise, Jordan and TV presenter Gabby Logan were all at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Leeds on Monday to say goodbye to their father. The service for the ex-Leeds, Coventry City, Tottenham<\/a>, Vancouver Whitecaps and Bradford City player included hymns sung by a Welsh choir, C\u00f4r Meibion Taf, and a reading from broadcaster Elis James and was attended by around 100 people.<\/p>\n

The funeral began with Wales\u2019 national anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, and included Yorath’s granddaughter Lois Logan singing Jerusalem, grandson Reuben Logan reading a poem and grandchildren Paloma Yorath and Phoenix Yorath reading prayers, while Yorath’s son Jordan delivered a eulogy. It ended with the choir singing You\u2019ll Never Walk Alone.<\/p>\n

There were also mentions of Yorath’s son Daniel, who tragically passed away in 1992 from a genetic heart condition aged just 15, while ‘Danny Boy’ was sung in his honour by the choir. A statement from his children following his death read: “Our hearts are broken but we take comfort knowing that he will be reunited with our brother, Daniel.”<\/p>\n

As well as family, including Gabby Logan and her husband, former Scotland<\/a> rugby international Kenny Logan, guests included ex-Wales manager Chris Coleman, Liverpool<\/a> and Wales legend Ian Rush and ex-Leeds player and TV personality Chris Kamara.<\/p>\n

There were also many other figures from the world<\/a> of football, including ex-Wales players Dean Saunders, Kevin Ratcliffe, Clayton Blackmore and Mickey Thomas, as well as Yorath’s former Leeds team-mates Eddie Gray and Paul Reaney.<\/p>\n

Rush was among those to pay tribute to Yorath after leaving the church. The ex-Wales striker told the BBC<\/a>: “He gave me all the confidence. As a manager he always put players before himself and he was something special.” He added: “It was with the help of Terry making me feel confident and that’s something I’ll never forget.”<\/p>\n

In a heartbreaking tribute posted on social media after his death, Gabby Logan wrote: “Our Dad a warrior on the football pitch, captaining club and country, a kind hearted and generous man off it, would have hated all the attention. (Well most of it).<\/p>\n

“The stories that have been shared by strangers with us today have been enormously comforting. He touched so many people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

“We knew he had limited time, but it is still a shock. Yesterday afternoon I sat by his bed in St James Hospital Leeds and we had a debate about whether roast potatoes were better with calves liver than mash potatoes.<\/p>\n

“That was the meal he\u2019d decided he wanted when he went home, tomorrow. I left and went to work, he was looking forward to watching Newcastle<\/a> v his beloved Leeds. He won\u2019t go home tomorrow. But he is reunited with Daniel and that will feel like home.<\/p>\n

“I am sorry he had to deal with so much pain, the tragedy of the Bradford Fire was forever in his heart and losing Daniel defined the second half of his life.<\/p>\n

“Thank you Dad for instilling your passion for fairness. Thank you for playing rounders, or making us race each other after dinner, even though Louise always beat me. Thank you for not making me pay you $1,865,986 after I kept losing at cards on double or quits, when I was 8 years old.<\/p>\n

“Thanks for teaching me the value of money by challenging me to eat a pot of mustard at dinner in return for \u00a35 so I could buy a pair of shoes I wanted when I was 12 (even though mum was horrified). Thank you for giving me a life long love of sport. Thank you for being a relentless tease with a wicked sense of humour.<\/p>\n
