{"id":724683,"date":"2026-01-27T18:25:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T18:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/724683\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T18:25:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T18:25:15","slug":"duke-of-kent-90-pictured-during-rare-royal-engagement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/724683\/","title":{"rendered":"Duke of Kent, 90, pictured during rare royal engagement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"e_mpf8OapT5\" data-wc=\"20\"><a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/tags\/duke-of-kent\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Duke of Kent<\/a> was pictured as he carried out a rare public royal engagement to mark a poignant occasion.<\/p>\n<p id=\"eyf8ma2X2sq\" data-wc=\"32\">The royal family&#8217;s Instagram account shared images of the <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/tags\/the-queen\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">late Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>&#8216;s cousin, Prince Edward, 90, as he visited the Imperial War Museum in London on Holocaust Memorial Day on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ey_CiDqtusD\" data-wc=\"33\">During the outing, the Duke, who was pictured using a wheelchair publicly for the first time, watched a performance by the English Chamber Orchestra. He has previously been seen using a walking stick.<\/p>\n<p id=\"eMn24K-zf5E\" data-wc=\"47\">Prince Edward\u00a0served in the Armed Forces in the UK and overseas in places such as Hong Kong, Cyprus and Northern Ireland, for 21 years. He retired from the army in 1976 and was given the honorary rank of major-general in 1983 and field marshal in 1993.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e_Id9pEyYN6\" data-wc=\"35\">Since then, he has consistently supported the Armed Forces and holds a number of military affiliations, including President of the RAF Benevolent Fund and President of the Board of Trustees for the Imperial War Museum.<\/p>\n<p id=\"eYKeOSz0NnM\" data-wc=\"22\">While the Duke has significantly reduced his public appearances in recent years, he still carries out engagements with his patronages and charities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/b663bb208010-gettyimages-2249422519.jpg\"   width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Duke of Kent arrives at the ruins of the old Coventry Cathedral\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" class=\"image image\"\/>\u00a9 Getty ImagesThe Duke of Kent visited the old Coventry Cathedral during the German state visit in December<\/p>\n<p id=\"eSOER-aMB7l\" data-wc=\"45\">Since the start of the year, he has attended a dinner to commemorate the 60th anniversary of his membership of Westminster and Keystone Chapter Number 10, and he has attended a concert performed by Dame Imogen Cooper in his role as patron of Wigmore Hall.<\/p>\n<p id=\"eMXCu1GYBVc\" data-wc=\"49\">The Duke sadly lost his wife of 64 years, the <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/royalty\/511949\/who-was-katharine-worsley-duchess-of-kent\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duchess of Kent<\/a>, last year.
