Three years ago, Legendary Entertainment\u2019s remake of the infamous 1978 box office hit\u00a0Faces of Death\u00a0(get it\u00a0HERE<\/a>)\u00a0went into production in Louisiana, with Barbie Ferreira of the HBO series\u00a0Euphoria, Dacre Montgomery of Netflix\u2019s\u00a0Stranger Things, Josie Totah of the recent\u00a0Saved by the Bell\u00a0revival, Jermaine Fowler of\u00a0The Blackening<\/a>, and singer Charli XCX making up the cast. It\u2019s been a long wait, but it has finally been announced that the new Faces of Death will be reaching theatres on April 10<\/strong>th \u2013 and along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a teaser trailer, you can click to in the embed above. But, a word of WARNING<\/strong> before you click on that video: in the tradition of the Faces of Death series, this teaser trailer either features or appears to feature people dying in horrific ways.<\/p>\n

In fact, we\u2019ve been told that the companies behind the film can\u2019t even put this teaser on their YouTube channels due to its \u201ctaboo nature.\u201d That\u2019s why it has been released through a random channel called sportsfan3456.<\/p>\n

Reminder<\/p>\n

The first\u00a0Faces of Death\u00a0was about\u00a0a pathologist exploring gruesome ways to die via footage purportedly culled from around the world. In reality, most of the death scenes were staged, but no matter, the movie had its producers\u2019 desired effect: outrage, revulsion, banning (although not in 52 countries, as hyped by the film\u2019s makers), and, of course, a money-making hit that spawned sequels and imitators. It was written and directed by John Alan Schwartz, who used multiple pseudonyms for several crew jobs on the flick.<\/p>\n

Seven sequels followed over the next twenty-one years. Now writer Isa Mazzei and director Daniel Goldhaber, the team that brought us the Netflix release\u00a0Cam<\/a>, are making the remake for Legendary Entertainment and producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford\u2019s company Angry Films.<\/p>\n

New Film<\/p>\n

Mazzei and Goldhaber provided the following statement about their approach to the concept: \u201cFaces of Death\u00a0was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online.\u201c<\/p>\n

When it was first announced that Mazzei and Goldhaber were taking on the project, it was said that their story would center on\u00a0a female moderator of a YouTube-like website whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, who stumbles across a group that is re-creating the murders from the original film. But in the story primed for the digital age of online misinformation, the question is: Are the murders real or fake?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Murphy and Montford are producing the\u00a0Faces of Death\u00a0remake with Divide\/Conquer\u2019s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath. Rick Benattar serves as executive producer, with Cory Kaplan co-producing. Murphy and Montford have been hoping to make a new version of\u00a0Faces of Death\u00a0ever since 2006, and for several years they had J.T. Petty attached to write and direct. They started the development process over from scratch when they hired Mazzei and Goldhaber.<\/p>\n
