A driver has been rushed to hospital following a bad crash<\/a>. The alarm was raised around 11.30am on Tuesday, January 7 when emergency services were alerted to an incident on the M8 near Newbridge, just west of Edinburgh Airport.<\/p>\n

Crews including Police Scotland<\/a> and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service raced to the crash site and the 36-year-old motorist was taken to hospital for treatment. Their current condition and extent of their injuries is not yet known.<\/p>\n

It is believed a car overturned and came to a stop in a ditch. Photos captured by traffic cameras shows personnel at the scene. It is understood one lane of the carriageway was temporarily closed.<\/p>\n

One passer-by told Edinburgh Live<\/a>: “Just passed an overturned car in a ditch just after the last bridge before the M8 slip road towards Newbridge. Police and Fire in attendance.<\/p>\n

“HUGE puddle under the bridge looks like the car has hit it at speed, lost control and flipped over into the ditch. It must have happened fairly recently but I\u2019d imagine they\u2019ll have to close the road <\/a>to get the car out the ditch.”<\/p>\n

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: \u201cAround 11.25am on Tuesday, 27 January, 2026, we received a report of a crash involving one vehicle on the M8 near Newbridge, Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmergency services attended, and a 36-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. No further police action is required.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes just over a week after a car burst into flames near Edinburgh Airport<\/a> leaving drivers horrified. It is understood the blaze erupted around 4.45pm on the M9 Westbound near Newbridge on Saturday, January 17.<\/p>\n

Police Scotland<\/a> and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), attended. Footage taken at the crash site shows hot, angry, orange flames ripping through the vehicle while thick, black plumes of smoke shoot into the sky.<\/p>\n

A short video appeared to show a blue-police car pulled to the side of the road with firefighters assessing the scene.
