Bristol City are looking at a loan move for Middlesbrough forward Delano Burgzorg ahead of the winter transfer deadline, Bristol Live<\/a> understands, but the deal is not yet thought to have been completed at the time of writing.<\/p>\n

The Robins have until 7:00pm on Monday, February 2, to reshuffle their ranks, with a temporary move for the 27-year-old forward now believed to be being considered as they look to bolster Gerhard Struber’s striking options<\/a> for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n

Burgzorg, who started his career at De Graafschap before enjoying time at Spezia, Heracles, and Mainz 05, started his time in English football with a loan at Huddersfield Town<\/a>. As the Terriers were relegated to League One in the 2023\/24 season, the forward scored seven goals in 33 Championship matches.<\/p>\n

A permanent move to the Riverside followed that summer, and in his first term in the North East, the Dutchman scored five goals and laid on two assists for his teammates.<\/p>\n

So far this season, Burgzorg has scored two goals and picked up two assists in 25 league games, the most recent of which came in the shape of a dramatic last-minute winner against West Brom<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Since that late win over the Baggies, the 27-year-old has featured as a substitute for Boro in wins over Stoke City and Preston North End. In total, he has only started 11 of the 29 Championship matches Middlesbrough have played so far this term.<\/p>\n

With Jeremy Sarmiento now making the move to the Riverside on loan from Brighton until the end of the season, a transfer which was confirmed on Tuesday morning, Burgzorg’s minutes could be set to become more limited under the management of Kim Hellberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, having previously been close – according to Struber himself<\/a> – to bringing the forward to Ashton Gate earlier in the window, before Middlesbrough decided they wished to retain the Dutchman’s services, Bristol Live understands the Robins are looking at a temporary move for the attacker.<\/p>\n

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol<\/a> about the efforts to sign Burgzorg after the Reds’ defeat to Ipswich<\/a> last Tuesday , Struber said, “It’s a shame, but it’s not always in our hand.<\/p>\n

“We were super close, everything was negotiated in a really good way, but we get the stop signs from Middlesbrough.<\/p>\n

“That’s the reality in our world, so I am not happy with that. Really disappointed, especially when you invest so much time with a player and convince this player to jump out maybe from a promotion club to us and I am really disappointed that we don’t finalise this transfer.”<\/p>\n

Whether or not any loan deal will be completed prior to the Robins’ next game, Friday evening’s meeting with Derby County at Ashton Gate, is unclear at this stage.<\/p>\n

So far this winter, movement into BS3 has been more limited than movement out. At the time of writing, eight players have departed south Bristol either on loan or a permanent basis, with Max O’Leary, Haydon Roberts, and Anis Mehmeti<\/a> joining West Brom, Reading, and Ipswich Town permanently in the last week, respectively.<\/p>\n

In terms of incomings, City have so far added just former Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy<\/a> and West Ham United prospect George Earthy to their senior ranks, while ex-Liverpool prospect Ranel Young has linked up with the Under-21s after penning an initial 18-month contract.<\/p>\n
