{"id":725543,"date":"2026-01-28T03:46:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T03:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/725543\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T03:46:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T03:46:11","slug":"european-leader-spoke-of-shock-at-trumps-state-of-mind-after-mar-a-lago-meeting-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/725543\/","title":{"rendered":"European leader spoke of shock at Trump\u2019s state of mind after Mar-a-Lago meeting \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fears about the U.S. president\u2019s health are \u201crapidly becoming a more conversed topic at all levels,\u201d said an EU official who is involved in political discussions in Brussels and between capitals.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, 79, has repeatedly and forcefully denied that he suffers from any condition affecting his cognition, <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/article\/donald-trump-addresses-health-hand-bruise-stroke-mri-greenland.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">telling New York Magazine<\/a> this week that he doesn\u2019t suffer from Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I won\u2019t do that, OK?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Ever since Trump returned to office a year ago, European governments have been grappling with how to deal with his positions on issues such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/greenland-turmoil-eclipsing-ukraine-war-russia-world-economic-forum-davos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine<\/a>, his administration\u2019s apparent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/donald-trump-europe-far-right-afd-germany-national-rally-france\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">backing for far-right politicians<\/a>, barriers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/us-and-eu-strike-trade-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free trade<\/a>, and the U.S. role in the continent\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/europe-defense-nato-mark-rutte-us-politics-threats-gdp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defense<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Trump threatened new tariffs on eight European countries, including France, Germany and the U.K., which he said were blocking his efforts to take over Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory belonging to Denmark, an EU and NATO member. He also didn\u2019t rule out taking the island by force.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech in Davos, Switzerland last Wednesday, the U.S. president demanded \u201cimmediate negotiations\u201d to obtain Greenland, but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/01\/21\/trump-greenland-rules-out-force-00738640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled out the use of military action<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe probably won\u2019t get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be frankly unstoppable.
