{"id":72655,"date":"2025-05-04T01:56:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-04T01:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/72655\/"},"modified":"2025-05-04T01:56:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-04T01:56:10","slug":"the-insane-stat-about-rafael-nadal-which-has-left-steve-johnson-in-shock-it-is-mind-blowing-to-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/72655\/","title":{"rendered":"The &#8216;insane&#8217; stat about Rafael Nadal which has left Steve Johnson in shock, &#8216;it is mind blowing to me&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Rafael Nadal retired from tennis as one of the greatest of all time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Spaniard hung up his racket with 22 Grand Slams to his name, and a legacy for being the fiercest competitor the game has ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps the greatest aspect of the 38-year-old\u2019s achievements and illustrious career is what he achieved on clay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/rafael-nadal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rafael Nadal<\/a> is unquestionably the greatest to step foot on the dirt, and some of his records are simply outstanding.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-694186584-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Julian Finney\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-77334\" \/>Photo by Julian Finney\/Getty Images<strong>Steve Johnson can\u2019t believe an \u2018insane\u2019 stat about Rafael Nadal on clay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of Nadal\u2019s most incredible clay court records include the 14 titles at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His tally is more than double the amount of 11-time Grand Slam champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/bjorn-borg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bjorn Borg<\/a>, who is second place on the list with six titles.<\/p>\n<p>But during the latest episode of the Nothing Major podcast, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/steve-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steve Johnson<\/a> pointed out another Nadal clay court statistic that he simply cannot believe.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is mind blowing to me that he has 12 more titles on clay courts than he has losses in his career,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has 63 clay court titles and 51 losses on clay courts throughout his entire career. He has more titles than losses. That is ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of his co-hosts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/sam-querrey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sam Querrey<\/a> added: \u201cHe played 71 clay court finals and won 63 of them. It\u2019s insane. Most of those are Masters series and Grand Slams too!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/GettyImages-1401362735-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Tim Clayton\/Corbis via Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-82270\" \/>Photo by Tim Clayton\/Corbis via Getty Images<strong>What are some of Rafael Nadal\u2019s greatest clay court records?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nadal has several other clay court records that are quite frankly hard to fathom.<\/p>\n<p>His longest win streak on the surface is 81 matches, the longest for any man on the surface.<\/p>\n<p>It commenced in April 2005 and came to an end in May 2007, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roger-federer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger Federer<\/a> defeated Nadal in the Hamburg Open final.<\/p>\n<p>Nadal has won more clay court titles than any other player, his 63 titles putting him 14 clear of Guillermo Vilas in second place.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, in 2010 Nadal claimed the Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome and French Open titles.
