{"id":72754,"date":"2025-05-04T02:52:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-04T02:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/72754\/"},"modified":"2025-05-04T02:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-04T02:52:09","slug":"southampton-man-completes-london-marathon-after-son-secretly-entered-him-into-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/72754\/","title":{"rendered":"Southampton man completes London Marathon after son secretly entered him into race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Southampton man has achieved his goal of completing the London Marathon after his teenage\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/news\/24970663.son-secretly-enters-southampton-dad-london-marathon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:son secretly entered him into the race;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">son secretly entered him into the race<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nikhil Agrawala, a 45-year-old father of two from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Southampton;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Southampton<\/a>, received confirmation he had been accepted into the 2025 London Marathon last year after his 13-year-old son Ansh, entered his dad into the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Not wanting to back down from a challenge, Nikhil underwent six months of training \u2013 despite having never run a marathon before \u2013 which included park runs at Southampton Common and a successful finish at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/news\/25081051.dad-ready-marathon-secretly-entered-race\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Southampton Half Marathon;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Southampton Half Marathon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Completing the 26.2-mile London Marathon course in five hours and 59 minutes, Nikhil said the experience had been \u201camazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the Echo;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the Echo<\/a>, he said: \u201cMy start time was 10.30am and I was excited but also nervous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started in Greenwich Park, and I happened to meet another man, Chris, who was from Southampton and dressed as a rhino.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe course took me to Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge, and finished going past Buckingham Palace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something I could never have imagined before, but it was brilliant, and the crowds were amazing, we all had name badges so they would cheer your name, it was fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As well as picking up a medal for completing the marathon, Nikhil was also part of the 56,640 participants who took part in the event, which was later confirmed as a Guinness World Record for the largest number of finishers in marathon history.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend\u2019s event beat the attendance set at 2024\u2019s New York City Marathon, which saw 55,646 take part.<\/p>\n<p>By taking part in the London Marathon, Nikhil raised his target of \u00a32,500 which will go towards renovating his son\u2019s scout hut in Shirley.<\/p>\n<p>Ansh suffers with cerebral palsy and is unable to walk unaided.
