{"id":727551,"date":"2026-01-29T01:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T01:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/727551\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T01:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T01:52:10","slug":"random-someone-made-their-very-own-portable-ps4-handheld-console","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/727551\/","title":{"rendered":"Random: Someone Made Their Very Own Portable PS4 Handheld Console"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Nintendo&#8217;s continued success with Switch, the rise of handheld PC devices, and the PS Portal finding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2026\/01\/ps-portal-peaks-in-usa-with-highest-ps5-console-attach-rate-yet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surprising popularity<\/a>, it seems the desire to play games on the go is still present.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re past the days of dedicated, standalone portable consoles like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/tags\/ps-vita\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PS Vita<\/a>, but as mentioned, Nintendo has proven there&#8217;s an appetite for home console-level gaming in a handheld form factor.<\/p>\n<p>Someone has taken this idea and run with it, modding a PS4 into a (relatively) small portable device.<\/p>\n<p>Over on Reddit, user <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Handhelds\/comments\/1ql3rfw\/final_build_fully_functional_stable_portable_ps4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wewillmakeitnow<\/a> shared images of the final build: a native PS4 crammed into something around the size of a Steam Deck.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\"><p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Handhelds\/comments\/1ql3rfw\/final_build_fully_functional_stable_portable_ps4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\ud83c\udfae [Final Build] Fully functional &amp; stable Portable PS4 Slim \ud83d\udd25<\/a><br \/>by<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/wewillmakeitnow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">u\/wewillmakeitnow<\/a> in<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Handhelds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Handhelds<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To make this portable PS4, wewillmakeitnow modified a PS4 Slim&#8217;s motherboard to &#8220;make it as compact as possible&#8221; without losing any functionality.<\/p>\n<p>They also say it features a &#8220;redesigned&#8221; cooling system, a 7-inch OLED screen, and HDMI output for connection to a TV.<\/p>\n<p>It runs on rechargeable batteries that last up to three hours, but can also be played while plugged in if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a video of the device to prove it works:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\"><p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Ps4portable\/comments\/1qmves9\/this_is_a_real_ps4_portable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This is a real PS4 Portable<\/a><br \/>by<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/wewillmakeitnow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">u\/wewillmakeitnow<\/a> in<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Ps4portable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ps4portable<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s not planned to be sold, and was simply made as a &#8220;personal engineering challenge&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s pretty chunky and doesn&#8217;t look particularly comfortable to hold, it&#8217;s a super impressive achievement. Having access to your PS4 games in a portable form factor, and playing them natively, would be brilliant.<\/p>\n<p>There has been talk over the last year or so about Sony making a portable device in the future, one that&#8217;s capable of running modern games. Whether that&#8217;s true remains to be seen, but if one modder can pull this off, perhaps Sony&#8217;s dedicated engineers can figure something out.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, what do you think of this portable PS4?
