Just months after giving Britain the cold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisismoney.co.uk\/money\/markets\/article-15093127\/AstraZenecas-200m-blow-Labour-pharma-giant-scraps-major-investment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shoulder<\/a> over a comparatively modest investment at home\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In September the firm binned plans for a \u00a3200 million expansion of its Cambridge research hub and shelved a \u00a3450 million overhaul of its Liverpool vaccine plant over how much the NHS pays for medicines. The deal would have created 1,000 jobs in the UK. Instead, the cash is now heading east, increasing AstraZeneca\u2019s China workforce to more than 20,000. Keir Starmer said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAstraZeneca\u2019s expansion and leadership in China will help the British manufacturer continue to grow \u2013 supporting thousands of UK jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So far Starmer\u2019s Beijing jolly has delivered visa-free travel for Britons staying under 30 days.
