The repair works will include sections of road and footways on Edinburgh Road and King Street.<\/p>\n
When the works take place, the council also intend to carry out work to create a new cycle track alongside Edinburgh Road. By carrying out the works together, it will help minimise disruption.<\/p>\n
A report to next week’s Council Executive is seeking approval to the progress with the cycle track project, enhancing safe active travel opportunities in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
West Lothian Council will fully fund the road and footway resurfacing works. Transport Scotland are fully funding the creation of a cycle track. (Their funding is ring-fenced for this purpose only and cannot be used for any other purpose).<\/p>\n
The committee report seeks approval to commence statutory procedures to install additional waiting and loading restrictions and to redetermine part of the carriageway to a segregated two-way cycle track on Blackburn Road, Edinburgh Road and King Street in Bathgate.<\/p>\n
If approved this will allow create a safer environment for all users with the proposed, segregated cycle track providing an off-road facility for cyclists whilst maintaining the footways for pedestrian use. The project is being progressed using grant award funding from Transport Scotland.<\/p>\n
The report notes that council officers have already consulted with affected parties and community in the area to help shape the plans.<\/p>\n
Members of West Lothian Council Executive will review the proposal at its next meeting on Tuesday 3 February.<\/p>\n
