It takes about 12 weeks to properly train for a half marathon, which is just enough time be ready for the <strong>AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run<\/strong> during the first weekend of May.<\/p>\n<p>The Midlands\u2019 biggest running event prepares to welcome thousands of runners back to Birmingham\u2019s streets this May\u2014with both <strong>half marathon and 10k races on Sunday, May 3, 2026<\/strong>, as well as the AJ Bell <strong>Great Birmingham Junior and Mini Runs on Saturday, May 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21749\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run. From more than 50 female army veterans running for the Women\u2019s Royal Army Corps Association to a former Birmingham Children\u2019s Hospital baby raising money for the hospital, you can support something close to your heart.<\/p>\n<p> <b>What races can I enter at the Great Birmingham Run?<\/b> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Minis<\/strong> (aged 3\u20138) can take on a <strong>1.5km route<\/strong>, while <strong>Juniors<\/strong> (aged 9\u201315) will face a <strong>2.5km challenge<\/strong> on Saturday, May 2\u2014at the world-famous <strong>Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr<\/strong>, the centrepiece of this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/secretbirmingham.com\/two-major-athletics-championships-to-take-place-in-birmingham-for-2026-with-athletes-competing-to-not-just-be-the-best-in-the-uk-but-europe-too\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretbirmingham.com\/two-major-athletics-championships-to-take-place-in-birmingham-for-2026-with-athletes-competing-to-not-just-be-the-best-in-the-uk-but-europe-too\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_0\" data-category=\"click_internal\">European Athletics Championships<\/a>. Half marathon runners will also enjoy the greener sights of south Birmingham, with <strong>Cannon Hill Park<\/strong> and <strong>Bournville<\/strong> along the route.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>start line at Centenary Square<\/strong> will once again become a carnival of colour, noise and high-fives, framed by the Library of Birmingham, Symphony Hall and the Rep Theatre, as thousands of runners set off supported by packed crowds.
